Born on April 7, 1940, in McKinney, Texas, Avery was the eldest son of the late Jesse Milton and Mary Kathryn (Hight) Scribner. Avery graduated in 1958 from Anna High School. At the age of sixteen he worked part-time at Whites Furniture, and later moved his family in 1970 to the Houston area to manage his own Whites store. Avery spent the rest of his career in the automotive industry managing several auto auctions. He was a member of First Melissa Church for many years. He truly enjoyed his work up until his retirement in 2002.
Avery enjoyed many things throughout his life including dancing, hunting, traveling, working in the yard, watching Westerns, playing dominoes, and spending time with friends. Most of all, he cherished his time spent with family. He had a wonderful sense of humor and dry wit, and loved pulling pranks on people and making them laugh. He will be remembered for the joy he brought to so many, and will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him.
