

Bert Aunan Jr. went home to be with his Lord and Savior on October 6, 2025. He was born in Sioux City, Iowa, to Norwegian immigrant parents, Bert Sr. and Ingaborg Aunan, and was the youngest of four sons. Bert graduated from Central High School in 1959, where he met the love of his life, Sharon Jensen. They were married on June 3, 1960, and were blessed with two children, Lori Aunan McCauley of Des Moines, Iowa, and Greg Douglas Aunan of Frisco, Texas.
He earned his B.S. degree from Morningside College and a Master’s in Criminology from the University of Iowa. Bert devoted his career to the State of Iowa court system, retiring in 2002 as Chief of Juvenile Court Services. He also served as a Clive City Councilman, Police Court Judge, and legislative liaison in the Iowa House and Senate. Later, he became a managing partner at Production Energy before moving to Frisco, Texas, to be near family.
Bert was known for his humor, generosity, and deep faith. He loved time with family and had passion for music, cars and some pheasant hunting. A longtime member of Westchester Evangelical Free Church, he lived his life in service to others. Bert is survived by his beloved wife, Sharon; his children, Lori Aunan McCauley of Des Moines and Greg (Leslie) Aunan of Frisco, Texas; four grandchildren, Ryan (Hilary), Trevor (Brittany), Henry, and Jenna; and two great-grandchildren, Cade and Cole. He is also survived by many extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.
Bert’s life was marked by faith, service, humor, and love—a legacy that will live on in all who knew him.
