Burdette "Bud" Warren Erickson Jr.

Burdette W. "Bud" Erickson, Jr., 78, of Frisco, Texas, and formerly of Gaithersburg, Maryland, passed away Aug. 1, 2023, at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center - Centennial located in Frisco, TX. Arrangements have been entrusted to Stonebriar Funeral Home. A private family service is planned for Aug. 25, 2023.

Mr. Erickson was born March 6, 1945, in Davenport, Iowa, to Burdette Sr. and Geraldine Erickson. He was the oldest of four siblings who grew up as part of a military family, which included living for several years in Madrid, Spain.

He attended Georgetown University, earning both a bachelor's and a master's degree in biology. After graduation, he worked for over 33 years for the National Institutes of Health in the Washington, D.C. area, serving as a Program Director for the National Cancer Institute. He retired from that role in 2004. After retiring, he enjoyed taking college courses in Spanish and computer programming in his lifelong quest for knowledge.

On Sept. 7, 1968, he married Kathleen Rourke at St. Bernadette's Catholic Church in Silver Spring, Maryland. The couple had two children, Joseph and Kimberly, and made their home in Gaithersburg, Maryland. He moved to Texas in 2021 to live with his daughter and grandchildren. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Frisco and enjoyed reading, watching movies and taking walks in the neighborhood.

He was preceded in death by his parents in 2010 and 2014, respectively, and by his wife, Kathleen, in 2014. He is survived by his son, Joseph (Teri) Erickson of Enchanted Oaks, Texas; daughter Kimberly Erickson and her daughters Grace, Caroline and Kate Villa of Frisco, Texas; sister Candace Erickson of New York City, New York; brother James (Patti) Erickson of Ocala, Florida; sister Judith Erickson of Torrance, California; nephew Alexander Erickson; and niece Riana Erickson.
