Cassandra Nichole Mercer was born on March 17, 1982 to Michael and Christine Mercer. She had two younger siblings, Kristen and Jason. “Buggie” as she was lovingly called as a child, because she would always follow us around and had a question and wanted an answer for everything. She grew up in Bay City, Texas and graduated from Van Vleck High School in 1999. Growing up, her nick name was “Cassie”, she and her friends loved to go to Matagorda Beach to swim and surf, in fact, she loved all bodies of water, so much so she named her oldest daughter, Sydney Helen Ocean Day as a tribute for her love of water, especially the ocean.
Cassandra’s favorite holiday also fell on her birthday! She loved to attend block parties and parades on St. Patrick’s Day. It was her favorite day of the year because of course as she would say everyone was out celebrating her birthday!
Cassandra had a very creative side, she loved to play guitar and sing. She had the ability to touch hearts and connect with her audience’s emotional side while performing. As far as entertainment goes she liked the Vampire Diaries, The Walking Dead, the movie Crash, and City of Angels, but music was her passion. One of her favorite singers was Mazzy Star, the name of whom she passed to her youngest daughter, Dannika Mazzy.
Cassandra’s greatest gift was her selflessness and ability to help and encourage others, despite any troubles and suffering of her own, she had a heart that just always wanted to help others, she was a natural born counselor. Cassandra’s friends all have stated that she lit up any room with her smile and personality when she walked in, because she knew no strangers and had a way about her to make everyone feel important to her.
She is survived by her father, Michael Mercer; mother, Christine Mercer; sister Kristen Mercer; brother Jason Mercer; and children Brandon (21), Sydney (14), Micah (12) and Dannika (2). Cassandra will be missed beyond measure and our lives will be so empty without her here, but those of us that shared her faith know we will see her again along with our Father in heaven.
She had so many friends and family whose life was blessed by knowing her, so let us not focus on this time of sorrow too long, but celebrate her life and how she touched each one of us in so many ways!
