

Charles “Chuck” Wiedman passed away on September 19, 2025, at the age of 93, peacefully and in the presence of loving family and caregivers. We are grateful for the time we had and for the loving care he received. His memory will forever be a testament to a life well lived.
Chuck is survived by his wife of 68 years, Dolores (Kasprzak) Wiedman; daughter Sylvia Wiedman; daughter Charlotte (Wiedman) Wiest and husband Ed, granddaughter Taylor, grandson Erik and wife Shannon, great-granddaughter Emma; daughter Julia (Wiedman) Hoeting, grandson Brennan and partner Fan Cai, and granddaughter Blair. He is preceded in death by father Charles Wiedman; mother Helen (Danko) Wiedman Carter; sister Lenore (Wiedman) Dudley; and son-in-law Robert Hoeting.
Chuck graduated as salutatorian of Ashtabula High School Class of 1950 lettering in football, basketball, and track, placing second in the state for pole vault. He was inducted into the Ashtabula County Track & Field Hall of Fame in 2016. He attended Case Western Reserve University on a full-tuition academic scholarship; was the 1954 Mid-American Conference pole vault champ setting the school record; was named the Litwak Trophy winner as outstanding student-athlete; was a Rhodes scholar candidate; was an Omicron Delta Kappa, Phi Society, and Student Senate member; was the Senior and Sports Editor of the yearbook; and was President of Delta Tau Delta fraternity. Chuck was inducted into the CWRU Athletic Hall of Fame in 2012.
After college, he served in the US Army, continuing in athletic competition in basketball, softball, and track. Serving in France and Germany, he took first in pole vault in the All-France meet, and third in the All-European Army meet.
After service, Chuck completed dental school at CWRU finishing fifth in his class and earning the Mosby Book scholastic excellence award. He then practiced dentistry in Parma, Ohio for 45 years and was named one of the Cleveland area outstanding dentists by his peers. The well-being of his patients were his priority and he was honored to have cared for them. He retired to Frisco, Texas.
At age 64, Chuck became active in Senior Olympics Track and Field for several years earning many awards including a third place finish in the pole vault at the National Meet in 2003, a sixth place finish in the hammer throw in 2013, and All-American honors many times in the pole vault, high jump, long jump, and hammer throw. He also enjoyed bowling, tennis, and golf (shot his age at 80 and 81!).
Chuck enjoyed landscaping, gardening, and crafting to create beautiful scenery at his homes and workplace. He was known for outstanding holiday costumes and displays and golf cart decorating creations.
As we say goodbye to Chuck, we remember a man who led an extraordinary life full of accomplishment and inspiration. We remember a husband, father, grandfather, athlete, doctor, creator, and friend. We remember someone with a quick wit and a compassionate soul who loved and cared for us all, who left an imprint on our lives, and whom we loved dearly.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be planned for a future date. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial contributions to the American Heart Association, the National Senior Games Association, or the Case Western Reserve School of Dental Medicine.
