Josephine “Cookie” Sparacino passed from this life on to eternal rest on November 30, 2021 in McKinney, Texas. Born to parents Jack Ferro and Vita Adamo on March 25, 1938 in Brooklyn, New York, Cookie was on only child but had many cousins that were like siblings to her.
Though her given name was Josephine, everyone called her Cookie. Her dad gave her that nickname when she was a baby, and it stuck with her. She got so used to the nickname she sometimes would not answer if you called her Josephine.
Cookie graduated from high school with a bookkeeping background and landed a job at General Dynamics in New York City, NY. She loved this job and her boss, Mr. Drucker, and had such fond memories of that time in her life and continued to tell those stories to everyone.
Cookie was married to the love of her life, Anthony “Tony” for 58 years, until he passed in April of 2021. They lived across the street from each other growing up, one day he followed her to work, asked her out on a date, and the rest is history. They were very devoted to each other and everyone would say they belonged together like “peanut butter and jelly”, “eggs and bacon”, and “milk and cookies.” Together they had four children, Fred, Ana, Vita and Toni.
Being an only child Cookie dreamed of having many of her own children. She found great pleasure in being a mom to her four children. She was over joyed when she became a grandmother and would babysit while the parents worked. Cookie had a very close relationship with her grandchildren and she adored them more than life.
She was a devoted Catholic woman that loved the Blessed Mother and always found time to pray for her. Her husband, Tony, built a grotto around the two-foot statute of the Blessed Mother in their backyard. Wherever they moved the Blessed Mother went with them.
Over the years, Cookie enjoyed making cross stitch baby blankets and crochet blankets for her children and grandchildren. She had an affinity for shoes and a set of little collectible shoes displayed in her china cabinet. She also loved to sing and dance. Throughout the remaining years of her life, there was always music playing and you would find Cookie singing along, sometimes at the top of her lungs!
After her husband passed, Cookie’s daughter searched for something to keep her mother’s mind busy. They started out just making keepsake bracelets for the family, a small donation to the Alzheimer’s Foundation, in memory of her husband and their dad. They called it “Cookie’s Cause” and raised over six thousand dollars!
Preceded in death by her parents Jack and Vita Ferro and the love of her life, her husband, Anthony. Her legacy will live on through her children; her son Freddie Sparacino of Massapequa, NY; her daughters: Ana Maida and her husband Bill of Islandia, NY; Vita Spinuso and her husband Louie of McKinney, TX; and Toni Sparacino and her life partner, Maria of Franklin Square, NY. Her grandchildren: Travis, Trevor, Brianna, Troy, Ashley, Gina, Lauren, Anthony and Vincent will continue to share their memories of their beloved Cookie.
Cookie was loved while she was here on earth and will continue to be loved by her family and friends through time and all of eternity. She will be deeply missed by all that knew and loved her.
A visitation for Cookie will be held Monday, December 6, 2021 from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Stonebriar Funeral Home, 10375 Preston Rd., Frisco, Texas 75034. A graveside service will occur Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at 11:00 AM at St. Charles Cemetery, 2015 Wellwood Ave, Farmingdale, NY.
