Desiderio Colón, 82, left us on May 14th , 2018 in Frisco, TX spending his final days surrounded by loved ones. A visitation will be held Friday May 18th from 4pm-8pm and a funeral Saturday May 19th at 11am. Both will be held at Stonebriar Funeral Home, 10375 Preston Road, Frisco, TX 75034.

Desi lived a long, happy life and was known as a true renaissance man with a great sense of humor who enjoyed making others smile. He was a talented artist, an amazing cook, and a excellent golfer. Desi was born with a sense of wanderlust that took him from his birthplace in Coamo, Puerto Rico to all corners of the globe before retiring to Frisco, Texas after a long illustrative career with American Airlines and Trans Caribbean Airways. When retirement didn’t “take”, he parlayed his love of cooking into a second career with his wife, Marilyn, by opening two restaurants, Café Desi and Lucy’s, both in Celina, TX.

Desi was stubborn in a beautiful way and taught others to voice their opinion and stand up for what they believe in.

Desi is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn Colon of Frisco TX; daughter Rhonda Journey and her husband, Steve, of Fremont, CA; son Desi Colón and his wife, Danielle, of Carmel, NY; daughter Jennifer Peterman and her husband, Brooks, of McKinney, TX; stepdaughter Kate Green and her husband, Alasdair, of Providence Village, TX; stepson Matthew Vonderahe and his wife, Jennifer, of Las Vegas, NV; and stepson Kurt Vonderahe and his wife, Jennifer, of Montclair, NJ. Desi was adored by his extended family, their spouses and especially his 12 grandchildren. Desi was one of 11 siblings and is also survived by his brother David Ramades and two sisters Aquilina and Ada Maria.

Marilyn would like to thank the staff and caregivers at The Cottages at Chapel Creek and the loving care support provided by Pastor Craig Castleberry, Joan, Tera, Mabel, Linda and Rachel from Total Hospice and Pallative Care.

Should friends desire, contributions may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org.
