January 17, 1948 – September 27, 2026
Dong Jin Yom, age 78, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2026. Born on January 17, 1948, in Seoul, South Korea, to James Dusun Yom and Chung Suk Kim, Dong Jin lived a life marked by honor, dedication, unwavering responsibility, and, above all, a profound love for his family.
From his junior high school years through his time at the Republic of Korea Air Force Academy, Dong Jin developed a deep passion for rugby. The discipline, perseverance, and spirit of teamwork he cultivated on the field would become defining qualities throughout his life and distinguished military career.
Dong Jin proudly served his country as a fighter pilot in the Republic of Korea Air Force for 17 years, ultimately retiring with the honorable rank of Lieutenant Colonel. His years of military service reflected his steadfast commitment to duty, courage, and country.
Following his retirement from the military, Dong Jin made the courageous decision to immigrate to the United States, carrying with him a vision of greater opportunity and a brighter future for his family. This transition represented another chapter of sacrifice and determination in a life devoted to those he loved. He worked tirelessly, always placing the needs and well-being of his family above his own. As a son, husband, brother, and father, he was a source of strength, dependability, and enduring love.
While his accomplishments in military service were significant, Dong Jin's greatest legacy was the life he built around his family. His love was expressed through his steadfast devotion, his willingness to sacrifice, and his determination to provide for those entrusted to his care. Through every season of life, his faith remained an important part of his journey, and his family gives all glory to God for the blessing of his life.
Dong Jin will be lovingly remembered by his beloved wife, Ki Nam; his sons, David and John; his daughter-in-law, Minji; and his cherished grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Daniel, who brought him great joy. He is also survived by his loving siblings, Henry, Cecilia, Thomas, Ku, and Peter, along with extended family and dear friends who will forever hold his memory close.
Though his earthly journey has ended, the values he embodied—honor, perseverance, faith, and devotion to family—will continue to live on through the generations he leaves behind. His life was one of quiet strength and selfless love, and his legacy will remain a lasting blessing to all who knew him.
A Memorial Service honoring Dong Jin's life will be held on Monday, October 5, 2026, at 6:00 PM at Young Nak Presbyterian Church of Dallas, 850 Lexington Drive, Plano, Texas 75075.
May he rest in the eternal peace and loving presence of God.
