Dorothy (Dot) had many interests and hobbies. She loved dancing, singing, music, drawing, painting, exercising, sports, walking, knitting, quilting and reading. As a young girl she danced for groups all over Portland and joined an advanced class in her later years for exercise. She belonged to organized exercising groups such as Jackie Sorenson and Jazzercize for years and walked at least 2 miles every day. She excelled at bowling and golf and read 2 to 3 books a week. She learned how to tole paint and later taught it. Dot excelled at everything she did.
Dorothy worked for Pendleton Woolen Mills for over 46 years. She started as a secretary to the president, vice president, CFO, and wool buyer. After several years she became the assistant to the wool buyer. When she decided to retire the Vice President came to her and offered her any job she wanted if she would not retire.
Any organization she joined, she was elected president. Her daughter joined the Alpha Delt Pi sorority so Dot joined the Portland Mother's Club of Portland and the ADPi Mother's Club at Oregon State University. She was elected president to both and raised money for the sorority house. In appreciation for all of her hard work she was honored by being initiated into the sorority. Dot was also elected the president of the Homeowners Association of the Riverwood Condominiums. Under her leadership, the community came together. She was in charge of maintenance, landscaping, pool area and all neighborhood issues. All of these accomplishments were achieved because of her vibrant personality, intelligence, and organizational skills. Everyone liked her because she was friendly, funny, humble and caring.
