Glen was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada to Edmond and Edith (née Royal) Chenier on October 10, 1951. Born into an air force family, Glen moved throughout Canada as a child and also lived in France.
Early in his youth, Glen developed a passion for electronics that led to his long career in electrical engineering. As a teenager, he won his junior high school science fair by building a functioning oscilloscope, and he would regularly repair electronic devices for friends and neighbours. He held early jobs in television and radio repair and, after graduation from Red River Community College, he worked in the arctic on the Distant Early Warning (DEW) Line maintaining radar and air/ground communications systems. His career took him from Winnipeg to Ottawa, Ontario, and eventually to the Dallas area. In addition to his full-time jobs, Glen was a prolific and respected contributor to multiple trade publications.
Glen was also enthusiastically engaged in ham radio, model railroading and woodworking, with the latter two hobbies evolving into commercial endeavours. He was particularly proud of his design modifications to existing off-the-shelf model locomotives, which provided fellow enthusiasts with increased performance and improved realism. He engaged regularly in do-it-yourself projects.
A talented musician, Glen played organ, guitar and fiddle, and developed an interest in Celtic music later in his life.
Glen was a proud father of four boys from his first marriage, and a loving stepfather to his wife’s children. He enjoyed teaching and sharing his interests with his children through music and activities like camping and involving them in home improvement projects.
Glen is preceded in death by his father Edmond Chenier. He is survived by his wife Judy (née O’Mara); his sons Jeremy Chenier (Valérie Lederer), Kyle (Liesl) Chenier, Steven Chenier, and Joshua (Chandal) Chenier; his stepchildren Emily (Nathaniel) Bohr (née Watkins), Sara Watkins, and Benjamin Watkins; his grandchildren Alexandre, Freya, Chloe, Arthur, Finnian, Cailey, and Elliott; his mother Edith Chenier; and his siblings Gail (Danny) Adair (née Chenier), and Mark (Irene) Chenier.
Glen will be cremated prior to the funeral service. His remains will be interred at his home with Judy.
In lieu of flowers, Glen requested donations be made in his name to a charity of the giver’s choice. Glen’s family wishes to thank the staff at the Texas Health Presbyterian Allen and Texas Health Presbyterian Plano hospitals for the attentive care Glen received in his final weeks, and for the kind support provided to his loved ones.
