Mrs. Emelie Fern of Frisco, TX passed peacefully into eternal life on March 1, 2018. She was born Emelie Jolly on February 15, 1936 in San Antonio, TX to Mr. Jesse and Mrs. Anita Lovenskiold Jolly; and the fourth of five children. Emelie graduated from St. Gerard’s High School, and further matriculated to and graduated from Santa Rosa Division of Incarnate Word College also in San Antonio with her degree in Nursing. She married Mr. V. Roger Fern on May 30, 1964 at St. Gerard’s Catholic Church, and was the proud and adoring mother and grandmother to sons Stephen Anthony Fern and David Roger Fern, her daughter-in-law Kimberly, and to her grandkids Jason, Christopher, Daniel, Sydney, Matthew and Zachary.
Throughout her years, Emelie, also lovingly known as “Lil’ Boo” to her two sons, enjoyed her career as a Registered Nurse, and lived in several areas including New Orleans, LA, Baton Rouge, LA, Little Rock, AR, and McKinney, TX. Nursing was the ideal profession for Emelie as she loved caring for others—her patients, her family and her friends. In each of these places she lived and worked she established amazing friendships with the people she was around that she cherished until her final day. She was a devout Roman Catholic and member of St. Jude’s of Baton Rouge, and unselfishly served the less fortunate in many capacities through the Society of St. Vincent De Paul, St. Jude as well as some families she worked with during her time as a Public Health Nurse. Emelie enjoyed cooking for family and friends, mass at church, gardening at her home, the beauty of the Texas Blue Bonnet flower and any place with a waterfall, reading and traveling, testing her skills with a good game of dominos or solving puzzles, the 10 o’clock news and the Jeopardy game show; but most importantly, her greatest joy came with sharing time with her children, grandchildren and many cherished friends. Those who loved and knew her best will forever remember some of her favorite words of wisdom: “ it always will get a little bit better, you just have to hope and pray about it.”
In addition to her parents and husband, Emelie was preceded in death by siblings Ms. Theresa “Tessie” Jolly, Ms. Mary Jolly, and Mr. Frances L. Jolly. Left to forever cherish her life, legacy, and memories are sons, Stephen A. Fern of Tampa, FL, David R. Fern (Kimberly) of McKinney, TX; brother, Mr. Jess Jolly (Gloria) of Crestwood, KY, and grandchildren; Jason, Christopher, Daniel, Sydney, Matthew, and Zachary.
