

Fred was born April 2, 1938 to his loving parents Helen (Czop) and Stanley Garwacki in Springfield, MA. He graduated from Chicopee Vocational High School in Chicopee, MA as VP of his class in 1956. After High School, he decided to join the Navy and had the opportunity to travel the world for 2 years.
He attended College late in life at Grayson College and later The University of Texas at Arlington studying Criminal Justice, graduating in 1992.
He married his High School sweetheart Teresa McCaffrey in 1960, living in Chicopee, MA. They then decided to move to a larger home in Enfield, Conn. where the brood of four children could have more space. There, he worked at FW Sickles Company in Willimansett, MA. Also moonlighting in an Ensemble band playing the drums to make ends meet.
In 1973, he took a leap of faith by moving the entire family to Murphy, Texas for a new job opportunity. That is where he discovered his calling in Law Enforcement. He would become Murphy’s first Chief of Police and hold that position for 25 years.
In addition to his work life, he was also known to be adventurous. He enjoyed skiing, scuba diving, sailing, fishing, golf and an occasional amusement park.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 63 years, Teresa Garwacki, his Daughter Judi Allen, her husband Tim of Tigard Oregon; Son David Garwacki, his wife Sheri of Prosper, Texas; Son Jim Garwacki, his wife Lisa; Granddaughter Gianna Garwacki of Frisco, Texas; his Daughter Sharon Ray, her husband Charles of Little Elm, Texas; Grandson Ryan Pollak, his wife Nikki, and two Great Granddaughters Brooklyn and Bailey Pollak of Hackberry, Texas. Also, Brother Lawrence Garwacki, his wife Nancy of Russell, Mass; and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life memorial service for Fred will be held Saturday, June 17, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Stonebriar Funeral Home, 10375 Preston Road, Frisco, TX 75033.
Military Honors will be held at the Dallas-Ft. Worth National Cemetery on Monday, June 19, 2023 at 9:00 AM. More information will be forthcoming as the date is closer.
