Gang Wu, age 65, of Plano, Texas passed away on Friday, June 17, 2022. Gang was born on July 15, 1956 to his loving parents in Kaifeng, where he attended elementary and secondary schools. After high school, Gang was sent to a poor village to receive "Re-Education," a nation-wide movement launched and operated by Mao's Government during the Cultural Revolution (1966-1976).
When China resumed the College-Entrance-Examination System in 1977-1978, Gang was admitted to Wuhan University, a highly prestigious university in China, to study Computational Mathematics. After graduating from Wuhan University, Gang taught mathematics at Hubei University, also in Wuhan, for more than a decade. In the late 1980s, he went to Monash University in Melbourne, Australia as a visiting scholar.
Gang taught mathematics at Auburn University, Alabama, while being a graduate student in the Math Department after he came to the United States. Later, he became a self-taught software engineer working for several different companies, the latest one being Siemens.
Gang was a family man though a man of few words. He fully enjoyed his life: fishing, gardening, traveling, wine drinking and cooking for his lucky wife, son, relatives, and friends. He liked to watch movies; his favorite movie was Forrest Gump. Also, practicing calligraphy with a Chinese brush pen always gave him serenity and happiness, each stroke an enjoyment.
Gang is survived by his wife Hua Lin (Helen) Sun and son Paley Wu, his mother Yichuan Liang, his sister Bing Wu, his brother Gao Wu, and his niece Bingying Yang and nephew Tianhao Wu. Gang will be loved and missed forever.
