Gary Lee McCarver passed away on February 16, 2019 at the age of 68 in his home in Carrollton, TX. He was born on January 21, 1951 to Clifford Leon and Gloria Norberta (Longoria) McCarver in Harlingen, TX. In 1969, Gary graduated from Sam Rayburn High School and joined the United States Navy. He served as an AX1 during the Vietnam War and left the service in 1978. Gary and Jacqueline Scheffer married on November 2, 1985 in Pasadena, TX and found their home in Carrollton, where they have lived for the past 33 years. He studied Information Technology at San Jacinto Junior College and University of Phoenix, and worked in program, project, and operations management throughout his career.
During his Navy tenure, Gary earned an Expert Pistol Shot award and he later used this skill for game hunting. He enjoyed many more outdoor activities including fishing and gardening. His love of gardening turned into a passion project of producing and selling organic fertilizer, an endeavor that was appreciated by fellow gardeners. Cooking was one of Gary’s favorite indoor activities. He is best known for his gumbo and the annual Christmas tradition of making peanut brittle. Above all else, Gary is remembered for his infectious laugh, long-winded jokes, and abundant love for his family.
Gary was preceded in death by his father, Leon. He is survived by his wife Jackie; his four sons, Dustin and his wife Mandy, Jarrod and his wife Cindy, Erin and his wife Rachel, and Kyle and his girlfriend Kinsie; his mother Gloria; his brother Eddie; his sister Lori; and his four grandchildren Ava, Lola, Quinn, and Axel, along with many more family and friends.
