OBITUARY

Hack H. Kim

January 8, 1942May 17, 2018

Hack H. Kim, age 76, of Plano, Texas passed away on Thursday May 17, 2018. Hack was born Thursday January 8, 1942 to Heung Sung Kim and Sun Im Lee in Echon, South Korea, which is just outside of Seoul. He was the fourth youngest of five children. He grew up in Echon and was known as a child to be very smart, honest and organized. When he was an elementary student, he saved his younger cousin who had fallen into a well. Hack valued hard work and education. He graduated BoSung High School in Seoul, Korea. He graduated from Seoul National University and then served as a Captain in the Korean Air Force. From there, Hack earned his masters degree from Columbia University in New York City and attended Harvard Business School for the Advanced Management Program. In his career spanning 27 years, Hack Kim began as a Switch Technician at Harris Communications and advanced to senior executive positions within MCI and Samsung Telecommunications. He was married for 46 years to his soulmate Mindy Kim and had two loving children from this union, son Stan Kim and daughter Sharon Kim. One of the most cherished moments spent as a family was celebrating their traditional Korean Thanksgiving. He is remembered as being a very moral and honest man. He was known to be set in his ways which led him to be strong, goal oriented and diligent in his everyday life. These are traits that he carried with him as a young child and well into adulthood to later pass on to his children. He is fondly remembered as a very caring man and father. Hack attended St. Andrew Methodist Church in Plano, Texas. His belief in God helped him get through the tough times while dealing first with liver cancer and later with lung cancer. Nine years ago, Hack’s liver transplant surgery was the first one that his surgeon, Dr. Tiffany Anthony, did as a lead surgeon. Dr. Anthony told Hack right before his surgery that she promised to do her very best. To put her at ease, Hack joked that he was sure that she would do her best, either to send him home or to the funeral home. Dr. Anthony laughed so hard at the joke that she cried. This is just one of the example of how Hack’s acceptance of whatever God gave in life helped filled Hack with strength, courage and a wonderful sense of humor. Hack loved to go play golf and enjoyed music. You could often find him reading books or singing. Two of his favorite songs were “My Way” by Frank Sinatra and “How Great Thou Art”. His favorite place to be would be gardening. Hack H. Kim is survived by his loving wife Mindy Kim of Plano, Texas. Son, Stan Kim and wife Michelle of Tenafly, NJ; daughter, Sharon Kim of Edgewater, NJ. Two cherished granddaughters Phoebe and Lucy of Tenafly, NJ.
