Helen Ray Rowe

Helen was born in Big Spring, TX to Leonard and Susie Smith. She grew up on a farm in Knott, TX playing with chickens. When she was in high school her and her family moved to Big Spring, TX. After attending Community College she met her husband to be, Richard Rowe, on a blind date. They were married at her childhood home in 1960. In 1964 they had a daughter, Sandra Helen Rowe. Richard’s job had them move several times during the years. The family finally settled in Commerce, TX. Helen graduated from East Texas State university with her bachelors in accounting. She was the bookkeeper for Richard’s Optometry office until he retired.

Helen was always there for us in times of need and helped shape all of us into the people we are today. Although quiet, she had many friends that still came to see her through her final days. Helen had a love to craft and personalize items for people, from quilts, to books for her granddaughters. She embraced Christ and went to heaven in a place of love, not fear.

Helen loved her church, First United Methodist Church in Commerce, TX. She volunteered for many different committees in the church. She was honored with the award of United Methodist Church Distinguished woman.

Helen is survived by her daughter, Sandra Helen Rowe, son in law Robert Fernandez of Savannah, TX. Two grand daughters, Crystal Rose Garrett husband Justin Garrett of Frisco, TX; Ceclie Rachel Hardin husband Klent Hardin of Pflugerville, TX. Four great grand children; Weston Garrett, Ella Garrett, Brett Hardin and Emma Hardin. She is also survived by two sisters, Jewel Stovall and Leola Newton of Big Spring, TX.

Helen’s memorial will be Saturday, June 21st, 2025 at 1:00. The service will be held at Grace United Methodist Church in Frisco, TX. A light lunch will be served after the service.
