Etta lived in Queens until 1952 when she wed Richard Schmidt. They lived in Massapequa Park, NY with their two sons, Richard (Rick) and Scott. In 1975 they moved to Rio Rancho, NM.
Etta worked as a Human Resources Administrator at Digital Equipment Corporation until the mid1990’s. She was active in the Albuquerque Arts community, working at galleries and displaying her paintings.
She volunteered as a docent for the Albuquerque Aquarium and at El Rancho de las Golodrinas, Santa Fe’s Living History Museum. She was active at many Albuquerque Balloon Fiestas and always recalled a highlight when she got to ride in a hot air balloon.
In 2004 she moved to Anna, Texas to be closer to her youngest son Scott and his family. From Anna she moved to McKinney and eventually moved in with her son and family in Frisco, TX.
A very independent woman, Etta worked as a Hallmark Card Rep with Walgreens in McKinney and Plano until her retirement at age 85.
She was divorced in 1979 and is proceeded in death by her son Rick, his partner Don, her brother Jack, and her sister Doris. She leaves behind her son Scott, his wife Midge (nee Heimos), three Grandchildren: Courtney, Lanie and Jesica, her brother-in-law Harry, her youngest brother Robert, his wife Pat, and numerous nieces and nephews from New York to California.
A memorial service will be held at Preston Meadow Lutheran Church on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 11:00 AM CST and followed by a small reception at the church.
Etta supported many causes. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the American Heart Association, Easter Seals, the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association
