James C. DeRouchey passed from this life on to his eternal home on March 17, 2018 in Plano, Texas after a long, hard fought battle with cancer. Jim was born on September 18, 1946 to Jerome and Patricia DeRouchey in Miller, South Dakota. Jim shared his childhood with three sisters and seven brothers.
Jim graduated from the University of South Dakota in 1968 and married Dorothy (Mathews) DeRouchey. Together, they had two sons, James and Jason.
Jim was a controller of the hospital in Huron, South Dakota, a chief financial officer of the hospital in Bristol, Tennessee, and a district controller in Minneapolis, Minnesota and Dallas, Texas for the Hospital Corporation of America. He was active in Lions International, Lions Pin Trading Association, and the Knights of Columbus in Frisco, Texas. He was known as the “Madhatter” in the pin trading world. His friends remember him as a great man, wonderful Lion, pin-trader, and friend. Jim 'sweetened' life with his humor (not to mention his famous pecan brittle).
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Jerome and Patricia DeRouchey; and his six brothers. Jim is survived by his wife, Dorothy; his sons, James M. DeRouchey and wife Mary of Omaha, and Dr. Jason DeRouchey and wife Kim of Lexington, Kentucky; his grandchildren, Hannah and Cole of Omaha, and Sebastian and Wilhelmina of Lexington, Kentucky; his sisters, Lorraine Werdel of Vermillion, South Dakota, Jane DeRouchey of Vermillion, South Dakota, and Patricia Nation of nation, Arizona; his brother, Dr. Vince DeRouchey of Mesa, Arizona; and many nieces and nephews.
