Tex excelled at sports and Tex was a true Texan born and raised in Dallas. He played football and baseball at Sunset High School in Oak Cliff finishing his high school sports career as a member of the 1945 State Championship winning Baseball Team.
After graduating from high school, Tex joined the Navy, boarded a train at Union Station, travelled to the San Diego Naval Training Station to support the war effort.
Tex’s sports career did not end in high school. After the war was ended, Tex left the Navy and attended Anderson College where he continued to play ball. During his college years he was offered Professional Baseball Contracts with Atlanta, St Louis Cardinals and the New York Yankees. Instead he chose to marry his college sweetheart Jean, graduate from college, and in 1952 move back to Texas.
His professional life included 7 years with the Travelers Insurance Company, 12 years as an Independent Insurance Agent, worked in Commercial Investment Real Estate, and then 22 years as President & CEO of First National Bank of Mineola, Texas.
After retirement, Tex and Jean moved from Tyler to Frisco Lakes in 2008 where Tex wrote a book and continued to play golf and pool. On his 90th birthday Tex shot an 89! To the dismay of the FLMGA he consistently scored below his age!
Tex and Jean loved to travel, visited 50 states, all of the Canadian provinces, and 30 countries. During his travels Tex managed a round of golf in over 50 of the top 100 golf courses!
Tex was a loving man with a generous heart. He will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him. He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Jean, 3 children, 3 Grandchildren, and 3 Great Grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at 4:00 p.m., with visitation one hour prior from 3:00-4:00 p.m. in Stonebriar Funeral Home, Frisco, Texas. Tex will be laid to rest in the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery.
