November 23, 1947 – October 28, 2026
James William Whitefield, lovingly known as “Pop-Pop,” passed away on October 28, 2026. Formerly of Magnolia, Arkansas, he most recently resided in Aubrey, Texas. He will be remembered for his quick wit, extraordinary creativity, tireless work ethic, generous heart, and unwavering devotion to his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Idus and Martha Whitefield, and his sister, Joy Lusk.
James shared 50 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Gloria, who was the center of his world. He was a devoted husband who delighted in taking care of her and a proud father and grandfather whose family was his greatest joy.
James built an impressive career spanning 42 years with Alumax Bath Enclosures. Beginning as a draftsman, he worked his way up to general manager through his talent, determination, and leadership. Following his retirement in 2008, his entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish Waterfall Bath Enclosures in Carrollton, Texas, building another successful business. His career reflected his ingenuity, craftsmanship, and remarkable ability to turn ideas into reality.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, James made a lasting impact on his community. He was honored as a Magnolia Citizen of the Year, served for many years as a Cub Scout Cubmaster, was a longtime board member of Summit Bank, and served as President of the Rotary Club. He was also selected to carry the Olympic torch during the 1996 Olympic Torch Relay. One of his most remarkable achievements was envisioning, designing, and constructing the Aluween House of Horrors in Magnolia. For ten years, this creative undertaking entertained the community and raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for the United Way of Columbia County. It was a testament to his desire to make a difference in the lives of others.
A master woodworker and natural problem-solver, James could build or fix just about anything. He created beautiful furniture, treasured mementos, and extraordinary projects that showcased his talent and imagination. Among his most cherished creations were the extravagant playhouses he built for his granddaughters, transforming his craftsmanship into magical spaces that reflected his deep love for them. Whether building a business, serving his community, or creating something special for his family, James never did anything halfway.
Above all, James’s greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his wife, Gloria; his three sons, Jason (Tammy), Brian (Amanda), and Adam (Leslie); ten grandchildren - Clay, Laura, Megan, Jonah, Abbey, Copeland, Jadyn, Christian, Adalie, and Piersen; one great-grandchild, Lucas; and his sister, Fran Wilson of Huntsville, Alabama.
To his grandchildren, he was lovingly known as “Pop-Pop,” a source of laughter, creativity, generosity, and unconditional love.
James was a member of Central Baptist Church in Magnolia, Arkansas, and Hope Fellowship Church in Frisco, Texas. His faith was a foundation throughout his life, guiding his values and shaping the love and kindness he shared with those around him.
Throughout his life, James built many things - successful businesses, extraordinary creations, a stronger community, and memories that will last for generations. Yet, his greatest accomplishment was the family he loved and the lives he touched along the way.
He will be remembered for his generous heart, remarkable talents, and unwavering devotion to those he loved. Though his absence leaves an immeasurable void, the love he gave, the lessons he taught, and the memories he created will live on in the hearts of his family and all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of love that will never fade, and he will forever be cherished as a beloved husband, father, Pop-Pop, brother, and friend.
