Jeane Anne Benjamin

Jeane Anne Benjamin, age 84, passed away peacefully at her home in Frisco, Texas, on Thursday, May 2, 2018. She was born on April 6, 1934 in Galesburg, Illinois to John L. Martin and Lucy Lucille (Parker) Martin.

Jeane attended Gooseneck Schoolhouse, a one-room grade school in Abingdon, IL from which she graduated the 6th grade. She had a love for music and enjoyed playing the piano and organ. She was a graduate of Abingdon High School.

Jeane attended 2 years at Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri and 2 years at National College of Education in Evanston, IL with a degree in teaching in 1956. She then taught elementary education for two years in Park Ridge, IL.

On December 21, 1958 she married Russell Park Benjamin of Ridgewood, NJ. In 1960 Jeane taught school in Peoria, IL. They built a home on Champions Golf Course in 1966 and together, they raised three children.

Jeane and Russell enjoyed traveling together as well as golfing, freshwater and deep sea fishing and spending time with family and friends. Jeane also sold real estate and owned a women’s clothing store during their time in Houston, Texas. Russell and Jeane moved from Houston in 1984 to Canyon Lake, Texas and years later moved to the Dallas area to be closer to their two grandsons.

Jeane’s special interests and hobbies included raising a family and caring for God’s creation through planting and gardening. She enjoyed lunching with friends, bowling and playing bridge. Some of her favorite times out and about were to watch her grandchildren play basketball, football, soccer and attending church services. In her retirement years, she enjoyed watching her favorite soap operas, cooking shows and reading.

She is survived by her beloved husband of nearly 60 years, Russell Park Benjamin, Sr.; son, Russell P. Benjamin, Jr. of Frisco, Texas,; daughter, Loraine A. Benjamin of New Braunfels, Texas; daughter Susan F. Moore of Frisco, Texas; grandsons, Benjamin Oviedo and Brian Oviedo of Frisco, Texas. Sister, Phyllis and husband Alan Sex of Glenview, Illinois; Sister Mary and husband Don Chaplain of Ft. Collins, CO. Nephews, Marty Sex of Florida, John Chaplain of Ft. Collins, CO; Nieces, Lorrie Sex of Evanston, IL, Julie Chaplain of Ft. Collins, Colorado. Great nephews include Jack Chaplain of Colorado and Martin Sex Jr. of Florida along with great nieces Sophie and Maddie Brown of Evanston, IL.
