Jeanetta Faye Howell, 80, of Prosper, Texas, entered her Heavenly home on Thursday, December 26, 2024. She was born on February 26, 1944, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to the late Ruben Daniels & Bertha Howell. Jeanetta was raised in Idabel, Oklahoma, with church as a big part of her life. By the age of 3, Jeanetta was singing solos in church – which was the start of her commitment to church and the Lord, for years to come.
She was a 1960 graduate of Booker T. Washington High School in Idabel, OK, where she was a majorette and was the Valedictorian of her graduating class. Jeanetta went on to study business at Tulsa Junior College. She went on to work for Tulsa Urban League, American State Bank, American Airlines, and OK Fireworks.
Jeanetta had a zest for life and found joy in each day. She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh. Jeanetta would light up a room just by entering it. In her free time, she enjoyed reading, cooking, fishing, and walking. Jeanetta loved to watch sports of all kinds and was a huge Golden State Warriors fan. More than anything, Jeanetta cherished time spent with family and friends. She adored her children and would go to the ends of the earth for them. Jeanetta was a loving and kind mother, full of compassion. She was stern and straightforward, yet in a way that was graceful and admirable. Jeanetta was a true matriarch and took pride in that role. She loved being “Granny” and “Granny Granny” to her countless grandchildren, who brought her immense joy. Not only did Jeanetta care and provide for her own family but she provided for others. Over the years, she would take in entire families to help them through hard times, with her welcoming and warm demeanor. Overall, her outpouring of generosity for others was a gift to all who entered her home.
Jeanetta’s love and care for people stemmed from her devotion to her faith in God. She was an avid churchgoer at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma for many years, and even became a licensed minister under the direction of Bishop Clark Corbitt. She pastored many people over the years, mentoring and shepherding them in their own spiritual walks. Even within her own social circle, Jeanetta was considered a spiritual advisor to many friends, with being a wonderful listener who could provide sound advice grounded from God’s Word. She clung to the Bible and knew it inside and out, as she studied it daily and always kept her Bible with her. For many years, Jeanetta wrote a monthly newsletter that she sent to friends and family, which was just another way she shared her faith with others. Jeanetta was also blessed with the gift of singing, and she performed many solo concerts in the church and was a member of both the Mission Chorus and Masters Choir at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. Jeanetta’s unwavering faith and angelic voice blessed and impacted many people over the years. She will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her.
Jeanetta was preceded in death by her father, Ruben Daniels; mother, Bertha Young; stepfather, Proctor Young; daughters-in-law, Tanisha Harris-Corbitt and Sherry Gamble-Smith; grandson, Dustin Ward; brother-in-law, Samuel Horey Jr.; and favorite uncle, J.W.
