September 14, 1946 – June 21, 2026
Jennifer Sue Miserany, born Jennifer Sue Riser, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2026, in Frisco, Texas. She was 79 years old. Jennifer was born on September 14, 1946, in Anderson, Indiana, to William James Riser and Eleanor Riser, who gave her a foundation of faith, warmth, and an enduring love for people.
Jennifer devoted her professional life to the care of others. She built a distinguished career in the medical field, managing medical offices and working as a medical assistant — roles that called upon both her intelligence and her ability to make people feel at ease. In her later years, she found perhaps her most meaningful work at Becka's House, a neighborhood companion care home for young women with special needs in Plano, Texas. There, she partnered closely with founder and administrator Krystal Winget to create a home defined by dignity, compassion, and joy. The young women in her care — Becka Budahelyi, McKenzie Ford, and Emma Hickle — were not clients to Jennifer. They were family.
To know Jennifer was to feel immediately welcomed. She was bright, engaging, and possessed a natural gift for friendship — the kind of person who lit up a room simply by walking into it. She believed in God and carried that faith quietly, expressing it most fully through the way she treated everyone around her. She loved to travel, and she and her devoted partner of ten years, Dwaine Crawford, explored cities across the United States together, always seeking the next adventure. At home, her beloved dogs Bella and Bentley were her constant and loyal companions. Jennifer also had a deep and abiding love for her family. If she loved you, you knew it — and she was truly joyful when her family gathered around her. It did not matter if you were related by blood or simply by circumstance; if you crossed her path, you were hers. She was, without reservation, everyone's “Mamaw.”
Jennifer's life was not without its sorrows. She carried the weight of profound loss with grace and perseverance, never allowing grief to dim her light or diminish her warmth. Her resilience was quiet and steadfast — the kind that does not announce itself, but shows up every day, choosing joy.
Jennifer was preceded in death by her husbands, Tim Johnson and Dan Miserany; her beloved son, Steven Malicoat; and her parents, William James and Eleanor Riser.
She is survived by her partner, Dwaine Crawford; her children, Paul Joseph Malicoat and his wife Jenny Malicoat, Sherry Ann (Malicoat) Wasson and her husband Mike Wasson, and David Nathaniel Malicoat and his wife Rebecca Collier Malicoat; her grandchildren, Nathaniel Steven Malicoat, Hailey Jennifer Malicoat, Sharlais Ann Michelle Malicoat, Katelyn Suzanne Johns, Kinser Michael Malicoat, Jase Michael Wasson, Cory Dale Johnson, Aaron Joseph Malicoat, Deacon Allen Malicoat, and Brendan Francis Malicoat, May Grace Autry, and Bobby Crawford-Smith; her great-grandchildren, Adelyn Jo Malicoat, Ryder Nathaniel Malicoat, Zoey Elizabeth Malicoat, Lilian Johnson, Syrus Johnson, Runa Johnson, and Elric Johnson; and one great-grandchild expected to arrive in October 2026 — a new life arriving even as we grieve, a reminder that Jennifer's love continues to ripple forward. She is also survived by her cherished canine companions, Bella and Bentley.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Becka's House in Plano, Texas, with a graveside service to follow in Anderson, Indiana, at Maplewood Cemetery. Dates and times for both services will be announced. Details will be shared with family and friends as arrangements are finalized.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites those who wish to honor Jennifer's memory to make a contribution to the BJB Memorial Fund, supporting the mission of Becka's House and the young women Jennifer loved so dearly.
