February 14, 1958 – October 18, 2025
Karen Ann Gradel-Johnson, a radiant spirit whose elegance, strength, and compassion touched countless lives, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2025. She was born on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1958, in Windom, Minnesota — a fitting day for a woman whose heart and warmth shined so brightly throughout her life.
Karen was the cherished daughter of Norman Kenneth Svien and the late Dorothy Mae (Lockwood) Svien. From a young age, she carried a sense of grace and adventure that would define her journey. Her beauty and confidence led her into a successful career as an international fashion model, where she inspired others not only with her striking presence but with her authenticity and kindness.
Throughout her life, Karen found great success in sales, where her natural ability to connect with others earned her both recognition and enduring friendships. She approached every endeavor with passion, professionalism, and heart.
A lifelong equestrian and lover of the water, Karen found peace and joy in the rhythm of a gallop and the serenity of the waves. Animals held a special place in her heart, and she shared an unbreakable bond with her beloved pets. Her horses, mini-burros, dogs, cats, ducks, and geese always had forever homes and brought her endless happiness.
Karen’s greatest pride, however, was her family. She is survived by her devoted husband, Robert (Bob) Johnson; her loving daughters, Dana and Kirsten Gradel; and her dear sisters Brenda Filipek (husband Jack) and Susan Brown, who will forever cherish her laughter, wisdom, and unconditional love.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at Stonebriar Funeral Home, 10375 Preston Road, Frisco, Texas 75033. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of a life beautifully lived — one filled with grace, adventure, and love beyond measure.
Karen will be remembered for her radiant smile, her fearless spirit, and the way she made every person she met feel seen and valued. Her legacy of love, style, and strength will continue to shine through all who knew her.
