Kathleen C. Yancy met her Lord and Savior on November 4th, 2019. She was born on January 16th, 1945 as Kathleen Diana Couch at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida. Because of WW2 and her father, Otis Couch, being in the Coast Guard, she was 3 months old before he saw her for the first time. Her mother, Mary Couch, and her older sister, Sally, held down the fort until daddy came home and welcomed his bundle of joy, he called Katalina Flying Boat. Her younger sister, Elaine, was born 7 years later. Kathy and her family lived in Miami where she attended Miami High and found her niche in the marching band playing flute. On any Friday night during football season, she could be found marching in The Orange Bowl where they played their high school games.
During high school she started a part time job as a telephone operator. She would manually connect each individual call that came through the call board. Once she graduated in 1963, she began working full time for the Telephone Company as a Lead Trainer. She was able to buy her very own brand-new Candle Apple Red VW bug just after graduation. It was not long after that she met an ex-Marine from Texas named Robert or Bob Yancy. Soon they were married and expecting their first of two children, Jesse Dale Yancy who was born on September 8th, 1966. They welcomed their 2nd child 9 years later when Julie Denise was born on October 28th, 1975.
By this time, they had moved from Florida to Texas and were attending a small church called Walnut Hill Assembly. This small church has become a big church and has gone through many transformations including becoming Freedom Church. Almost any Sunday you could find both Bob and Kathy in the kitchen serving and blessing others. In addition, Kathy was an active member in the Fine Arts Department serving through song, costume sewing, or set designing. She did it all. She served the Lord faithfully all 74 years of her life. She showed everyone Jesus’ love through her talents of singing, sewing baby quilts, or just a friendly smile. She stayed active in church through OK Fellowship and the WOW group. She loved to travel and was able to see so much of the world through out her lifetime.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Earlton Yancy; her parents, Otis and Mary Couch; her sister, Sally Holman; her nephew, Joe Wagner; and her “favorite child”, Pixie.
She is survived by her son, Jesse Dale Yancy of Little Elm, Texas; daughter Julie Terry and her husband Keith Terry of Little Elm, Texas. 3 grandchildren, Trace Ellis of The Colony, Trey Terry and Taelyn Terry. Sister, Elaine Wagner of Montrose, Co. and Sister-in-Law, Jackie Clanton of Bradley, Ar. 4 nieces and 4 nephews and 18 great nieces and nephews. Her “buddy”, Penelope.
