Larry McSpadden graduated from Chelsea High School in 1957, where he met the love of his life, Cherry Gill, during his senior year. He went on to earn his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Tulsa. While pursuing his education, Larry began his career in accounting at Tulsa Tobacco. He and Cherry were married in December 1962, beginning a loving union that would span over six decades.
Larry began working at Sinclair as an inventory clerk while living in Tulsa. In 1967, he and Cherry welcomed their daughter Michelle. Not long after, the family relocated to Texas where Larry continued his career with ARCO Chemicals and later with Baker Hughes. In 1970, they welcomed their son Derek.
Larry was passionate about fishing, baseball—especially his beloved Texas Rangers—and collecting antiques. What began as a shared hobby with Cherry eventually blossomed into a business. Together, they ran Cherry’s Antiquibles in Celina, Texas, from 2000 to 2022. Even after closing the store, Larry continued to enjoy maintaining booths at a local antique mall in Frisco.
A devoted Christian, Larry's faith was central to his life. He and Cherry were longtime members of First Baptist Church in Frisco, Texas.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Louise and Harold “Cap” McSpadden, his sister Myrna Bengston, and brother-in-law Toby Bengston. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Cherry McSpadden of Frisco, TX; his brothers Harold “Pat” McSpadden Jr. (Ann) of Chelsea, OK, and Eugene McSpadden (Joy) of Bend, OR; his daughter Michelle Kelly (Devon) of Frisco, TX; his son Derek McSpadden (Terese) of Boulder, CO; five grandsons—Andrew McSpadden (Hailey), Christopher McSpadden, Patrick McSpadden, Devon Kelly, and Connor Kelly—and two great-grandchildren, Emmy and Enzo McSpadden.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 28th at 1:30 pm at the First Baptist Church of Frisco.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to alzdiscovery.org, Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Foundation, a company devoted to finding medications to treat Alzheimer’s and related dementias.
