It is with deep love and sorrow that we announce the passing of Lorene Sands Jenkins, age 83, of Mabank, Texas. Lorene passed away peacefully on October 15, 2025, in Wylie, Texas, surrounded by the warmth of her family and the love that marked her beautiful life.
Born on January 15, 1942, in Canton, Texas, Lorene was the cherished daughter of Elry Davis Sands and Lena Holt Sands. From a young age, she embodied the values of kindness, generosity, and quiet strength that would define her life and legacy.
Lorene was a devoted homemaker, a role she cherished with grace and joy. She poured her heart into raising her two daughters, Lisa and Elizabeth, guiding them with wisdom, gentleness, and an unwavering love. Before she had children of her own, she gained loving experience caring for her niece and nephews — a gift she gave freely and with open arms.
Her home was always a place of comfort and welcome, filled with the scent of something delicious cooking in the kitchen, the hum of a sewing machine in the background, and the pages of a well-loved book waiting to be turned. She took great pride in the little things — in homemade meals, hand-stitched creations, and the simple joys of family life.
Lorene is survived by her beloved husband of many years, Charles Burt Jenkins III; her devoted daughters, Lisa Jenkins of Dallas, Texas and Elizabeth Smith and her husband Shane of Frisco, Texas; and her treasured grandchildren, Olivia, Anabel, and Max Smith, who brought endless joy to her later years. She also leaves behind her nephew, Stephen Sands and his wife Cindy of Gatesville, Texas; her nieces, Shahrzad Bacon and her husband John of Frisco, Texas, and Stacy Mulcahy of Barnstead, New Hampshire.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Elry and Lena Sands, and her beloved sisters, Jerene Sands Bradford, LaVerne Sands Johnson, and Maxine Sands Bagheri — a close-knit group whose memories and love sustained Lorene throughout her life.
A Private family gathering to honor Lorene’s life will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2025.
Lorene’s life was one of quiet impact — marked by unconditional love, steady faith, and a deep devotion to family. Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
In her memory, we find comfort. In her life, we find inspiration.
"Well done, good and faithful servant." – Matthew 25:23
