Lucretia Holmes, a vibrant and generous spirit, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2025, surrounded by love. Born in Shreveport, Louisiana, and raised in nearby Bossier City, Lucretia lived a life marked by grace, curiosity, and deep connection to others.
Music was in her heart from the start. She played multiple instruments and brought energy and charm to the high school marching band as a proud majorette. After graduating from Bossier City High School, she began her college journey at Stephens College in Springfield, Missouri, before transferring to Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. At LSU, she embraced campus life fully as a proud member of the Chi Omega sorority, served on the yearbook committee, and earned a degree in English and Journalism.
After college, Lucretia returned home to teach high school, inspiring young minds by day and exploring the world by summer. It was during one of these travels in Italy that she met the love of her life, Roy E. Graham, whom she married in 1963.
Lucretia’s professional journey was as dynamic as her personality. She held meaningful roles across the country with the Texas State Legislature, the William & Mary Quarterly in Virginia, and technology pioneers Electronic Data Systems and Perot Systems. Her sharp intellect and keen organizational skills led her to be recruited for Ross Perot’s presidential campaign in the early 1990s, an experience she cherished and spoke of often.
Even in retirement, Lucretia remained active and purpose-driven. She volunteered at the Assistance Center and greeted visitors with warmth as a receptionist at the Plano Senior Center. She served on the board of the Stephens College Women’s Alumni Association, participated in Leadership Texas, and never lost her passion for discovering new places.
Lucretia nurtured deep friendships and community bonds. She delighted in playing bunko with her YaYa sisters, laughing with her Bossier Babes, and serving faithfully with her beloved P.E.O. Sisterhood. She was an avid reader, a lover of music from nearly every genre, and a woman who found joy in life’s small and grand moments alike.
Above all, Lucretia was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend. Her laughter was infectious, her heart open, and her spirit unfailingly gracious. She is survived by her daughters, Heather C. Brown and her spouse Sean Brown; Elizabeth Graham and former spouse Joe Davis; her beloved grandson Garrett Graham and his spouse Candice Bernd. She was laid to rest in a private burial beside her cherished parents, Willola Amanda Price and Jewell Dawson Holmes, in North Louisiana.
Lucretia’s life was a beautiful tapestry of joy, adventure, and love. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness and a community deeply enriched by her presence.
