Margaret was born on August 22, 1959 in Germany to Moses Mitchell and Waltraud Blum. After living in Germany for a few years, she moved to the states and lived in Ohio, Tennessee, and California. She moved to Florida to be closer to her family before settling down in Texas to be near her daughter Terrica Odum, her “favorite son-in-law” Marcus, and grandsons Javan and Donovan.
Margaret was a devoted mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend. She was affectionately known as Grammy to her two grandsons whom she loved deeply. As the boys’ biggest cheerleader, she was front and center for nearly every sports game, play, school assembly, or awards ceremony. She will forever be remembered for her compassion, willingness to help others, and her penchant for supporting and helping others to cultivate their dreams and ideas. Margaret had an uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and positive way. She truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; spending time with her family, cooking great meals, and traveling with her close friends.
Margaret is preceded in death by her father Moses and mother Waltraud. She is survived by her stepmother Debora Mitchell of North Lauderdale, FL; son James “Akili” Downey of Dallas, TX; daughter Terrica Odum (Marcus) of Frisco, TX; grandchildren Javan and Donovan; siblings Mark Mitchell of Rockwall, TX; Barbara Mitchell-Hoard of Boynton Beach, FL; Greg Burnside of Long Beach, CA; Derek Stovall (Ruth) of North Lauderdale, Fl; Jerome Mitchell (Ashia) of North Lauderdale, FL; sister- friends, Lavon Walsh, Linder Lane and Lleslie Johnson; special friend, Reverend Manuel Mosley; travel buddies, Viveca Wilson, Vickie Miller, Trinita Rollie, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
