Margaret Ferguson entered into eternal rest at the age of 61 on October 11, 2020 in McKinney, Texas. Margaret was born on August 22, 1959 in Germany to Moses Mitchell and Waltraud Blum. After living in Germany for a few years, she moved to the states and lived in Ohio, Tennessee, and California. She moved to Florida to be closer to her family before settling down in Texas to be near her daughter Terrica Odum, her “favorite son-in-law” Marcus, and grandsons Javan and Donovan.

Margaret was a devoted mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend. She was affectionately known as Grammy to her two grandsons whom she loved deeply. As the boys’ biggest cheerleader, she was front and center for nearly every sports game, play, school assembly, or awards ceremony. She will forever be remembered for her compassion, willingness to help others, and her penchant for supporting and helping others to cultivate their dreams and ideas. Margaret had an uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and positive way. She truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; spending time with her family, cooking great meals, and traveling with her close friends.

Margaret is preceded in death by her father Moses and mother Waltraud. She is survived by her stepmother Debora Mitchell of North Lauderdale, FL; son James “Akili” Downey of Dallas, TX; daughter Terrica Odum (Marcus) of Frisco, TX; grandchildren Javan and Donovan; siblings Mark Mitchell of Rockwall, TX; Barbara Mitchell-Hoard of Boynton Beach, FL; Greg Burnside of Long Beach, CA; Derek Stovall (Ruth) of North Lauderdale, Fl; Jerome Mitchell (Ashia) of North Lauderdale, FL; sister- friends, Lavon Walsh, Linder Lane and Lleslie Johnson; special friend, Reverend Manuel Mosley; travel buddies, Viveca Wilson, Vickie Miller, Trinita Rollie, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

I loved our conversations at the end of the workday when it was just Margaret and I in the office. And of course the talks of her one day having a pool. Now she will have her pool. Love you Margaret. Rest In Peace.

Our family moved here just under 6 years ago and the Odums were one of the first friends we made in the city. Our boys were heartbroken to be so far from their own grandparents, whom were just like added parents their whole lives; but Momma Margaret was a blessing to them from the first day we met. She loved on our boys, welcomed them into her home for sleepovers, corrected them as she would her own grandbabies; often filling a void that only a grandmother could.

We are forever indebted to Javan and Donovan for sharing their Grams with our boys. She was home away from home and we are thankful for the blessing that she was on our family.

Terrica and Marcus, there are no words that can heal your hurt. But always know, the Jones family is with you everyday in prayer and rememberance of Momma Margaret. We love you all so very much.

I truly feel a loss, Margaret though technically my sisters good friend, was a sister to me. Sisters for close to 40 years...a lifetime. There were times when I showed up on her doorstep with my suitcase and my babies, and she made sure we were comfortable and assisted me in getting back on track. Margaret, there's no doubt that you loved me and so I will forever love you. My confidant, my life resource, my support in all of my endeavors, my friend, my sister. I could never repay you for the value you have been to my life. Love you forever 💘

It's hard to find the words for someone who touched your life the way Margaret did. As I struggle with my grief, memories of Margaret and me drift through my mind. I first met her in 1998 when she interviewed for an office manager position I was leaving. As it turned out, she was hired and we worked together for a few months. We formed a close friendship that lasted, even though she moved from Florida to Texas.

We shared many a meal together, and probably tried every steak house in the area! We met for lunch when we worked nearby, and she always made time for us!!

We shopped, explored, shared our deepest secrets, and supported one another through the best and worst of times. We laughed, and cried, and she'd even go to the beach with me (She didn't like the sand.). I used to kid her about getting old and I'd put her in a wheel chair, roll her on the beach with my little dog on her lap licking her face (She wasn't fond of dogs. She called my small dog "Kudjo". )! We once sailed together to Mexico, she even went snorkeling with me!! She always wanted me to have a good time, was never selfish, and the girl made the best deep fried pork chops in the world!!

You were the light of your mom's world. She loved you and your family to the depth of her being. God bless you during this difficult time. May she rest in peace and love.

One of the most epic girl trips I’ve experienced was with you, Linder, Viveca, and Vicky. Laughing until we cried, deep conversation and reflection, jokes, flirting, singing, horseback riding, cowboys, dancing, soul food, and lots of love!

You had so many beautiful layers and you were an amazing mother, grandmother, friend, sister etc.

As a village, we will continue to love and take care of your beautiful family.

Your love and legacy will live on forever! Thank you for gracing us with your presence.

My sincerest condolences to Terrica, Javan, Donovan, Marcus, friends and family. Te amo con todo mi corazon. ❤️

Auntie Margaret, you had the sweetest smile. The cutest laugh and the biggest heart, ever. I thank you for showing me how to mother with all my might. You cared for your babies in a way that I've never witnessed before. I cant believe that you are gone. I can barely type out a message that even makes sense right now. I will always remember your egg nog and you giving Cydni Dr. Pepper when she was like 5 months ... thank you for trusting Josh and I to drive Terrica across country from Florida to Texas. Thank you for being a wonderful Auntie and the GREATEST best friend to my Momma Vonnie. I love you. We love you. ~ Carol, Josh, Caila and Cydni

Ever since I meet Ms. Margaret, she’s been “Mom” to me. Me and my family have been so blessed to have known her for the last 14 years. Mom loved me and my girls as her own grandchildren. Her smile and laugh would light up any room. As a matter of fact, I don’t ever think I saw her without a smile on her face.

Terrica, Marcus, Javan and Donovan, you all are her world. I know she is so very proud of each of you. I know this is so difficult and I am so sorry. The Mwaniki-London clan will always be here for you all and love you so very much.

We love you.
