Joan was born in the Bronx, New York on March 4, 1936 to Arthur and Josephine O’Grady. She and her brother, Art, were raised in a home filled with love, laughter, music and devotion to God. She was nurtured by a large, close-knit extended family who cherished gathering often to celebrate the blessings the Lord provided. Those early gatherings filled with meals, music and singing shaped her understanding that love of the Lord and others was life’s greatest priority, a value she carried throughout her life.
Upon graduating high school, Joan worked at MetLife before meeting and marrying her love, Frank J. Quirk in 1958. Together, they built a beautiful life in Yorktown Heights, New York, where they raised their four children, William, Laura, Diane and Daniel. Joan’s family was the light of her life. She was a devoted, patient and selfless wife and mother, and she instilled in her children the values of faith, hard work, discipline and integrity.
Nothing brought Joan more joy than gathering with her family, delighting in the company of her four children, six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, and her large extended family -- all of whom made her extremely thankful and proud.
Joan consistently lived out her faith through action, always putting others before herself. She was funny, quick-witted and known for her ability to turn lemons into lemonade. She had an extraordinary gift of sharing her home and heart with family, friends and neighbors who knew her door was always open, her table always welcoming, and her spirit always kind.
While her absence is deeply felt, her family takes comfort in knowing Joan is now at rest in heaven with Jesus, and is embraced by the love of her husband, Frank, her beloved grandson, Danny, her brother, Art, her parents and so many friends and loved ones who preceded her.
Joan’s memory will live on in every shared meal, every act of kindness, and every family gathering—in all the ways she taught us that love is the greatest gift we can give. She will be profoundly missed, lovingly remembered, and forever celebrated in the hearts of all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Joan’s honor.
In keeping with the family’s wishes, a private service will be held.
