Marjorie Louise Bayliff Kurth came into this world as a gift to her mother, Roberta, and father, Clayton, on November 8th, 1939, in Clear Lake, OK. She returned to her heavenly Father September 23, 2022 in Richardson, TX.
But those facts don’t fully tell her life story: a story of love of family; passion for baking/cooking cherished by those she blessed with food which came as much from her heart as from her kitchen; her pursuit of crafting, be it crocheting, sewing, or collecting Christmas ornaments and nativities.
Marj was the third of 6 children, one of whom–Grace–preceded her in death. She is survived and still cherished by Leroy, Robert, Richard and Raymond and their spouses and children. The Bayliffs were a family bound together by love still evident today.
Marj took on a new love when she married the earthly love of her life, the late Ron Kurth on April 30, 1959. The two met in Dodge City, Kansas, while Ron was in college and Marj was attending cosmetology school. From their joyful union came two children, Tim and Kimberly, who survived them, along with Tim’s children, Katy and Kelsy, and four great grandchildren. Again, love was the hallmark of Marj’s life: working to keep the books for Ron’s business; working to keep Ron and the kids–but especially Ron–in line; making a warm and loving home filled with food, faith, and the games Marj loved to play.
While we’re talking about Marj and games, let’s mention the Texas Rangers, just because Marj would want us to. Let’s also mention two of her other favorites, Elvis and Paul Newman, again, because Marj would want us to. But she’d also want you to know she loved time with Ron: dancing, bowling, working and traveling.
When Marj and Ron became Texans in 1983, they affiliated with the Lebanon Baptist Church in Frisco. Love of the Lord, and service to Him were extremely important to Marj. It inspired her to visit the Holy Land to see for herself where Jesus lived, preached and was baptized, and the tomb where his body was placed.
In her last days, reading of the Scriptures, prayer and devotionals reinforced her faith, easing her passage from this material world to that Higher Kingdom. Marjorie will be entombed with her husband at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
A memorial service for Marjorie will be held Saturday, October 8, 2022 starting at 11:00 AM at Lebanon Baptist Church, 9404 Lebanon Rd, Friscco, TX 75035. The memorial service will be streamed live for those not able to attend in person. Please check back here for the link.
Of Marjorie Bayliff Kurth, it can truly be said:
“She is clothed with strength and dignity;
she can laugh at the days to come.
She speaks with wisdom,
and faithful instruction is on her tongue.
She watches over the affairs of her household
and does not eat the bread of idleness.
Her children arise and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her:
“Many women do noble things,
but you surpass them all.”
Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
Honor her for all that her hands have done,
and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.”
Proverbs 31:25-31
