Mary Alice Buncher, born January 4, 1941 in Galesburg, IL, passed away peacefully in Frisco, Texas on February 21, 2023. Mary was the youngest of four children of Nelson Dodge and Ethel Norton. She will always be remembered by all those who knew her as a wonderful wife, mother and friend.
Mary and Jim shared over 60 incredible years of love and compassion together. They married September 3, 1961 at First Christian Church in Galesburg, IL. Their son Doug was born in 1964 and currently lives in Plano, Texas with his wife Shannon who Mary loved like a daughter. Doug grew up in many different cities before Mary and Jim moved to Dallas in 1979. She was very proud of her son Doug, a graduate of Texas A&M University and SMU Law School. Doug and Shannon gave Mary two amazing grandchildren, Natalie and Mason, who she loved dearly. They always loved spending time with their Nana.
Mary was a loving mother to her only child Doug, and always made each new place they moved feel like home. She had the keen ability to make everyone feel celebrated and loved on special days, and more importantly even the ordinary ones. Mary had many long-time friends from the many places she and Jim lived and was a wonderful hostess that loved to entertain and create beautiful spaces where her many friends and family could gather, laugh and enjoy each others company.
Mary and Jim spent the last 20 years traveling the world on many cruises with friends. They were able to travel to almost every continent, with Antarctica being the only stone left unturned. Mary enjoyed playing golf with family and friends, boating at Lake Texoma, and hiking and other outdoor activities as well as dining with friends when Mary and Jim spent time at their home in Vail, Colorado. She loved singing with Rod the guitar player on Pepi’s Porch in Vail Village. Mary was always the life of the party when she and her friends got together. Mary is survived by her husband, son, daughter-in-law and two grandchildren, who all love and miss her very much. She also left behind many life-long friends from all the places she and Jim lived who also will miss seeing her smiling face.
