Mike was born on March 9, 1960, in Sacramento, CA, to Paul and Barbara LaChance.
Mike grew up on Shaw Lane in Huntington Beach, CA with his three brothers and sister. He loved to skateboard and got into plenty of trouble with his siblings & neighbors. He graduated from UC Irvine with degrees in Biological Science & Electrical Engineering. He still joked about the number of parking tickets he received as a student.
On September 17, 1983, he married the love of his life, Pamela Thomsen LaChance, in Orange, CA. They met as coworkers at the Sheraton Newport – Pam as the front desk manager and Mike as a front desk clerk. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and a lot of “aloha”.
Mike retired after a distinguished career as an electrical engineer in the semiconductor industry, working at Silicon Systems, Broadcom, and MaxLinear. Throughout his career, he earned the respect of colleagues for his leadership & technical expertise and also his generosity & mentorship. Many who worked alongside him became lifelong friends.
Affectionately known as “Lifeguard Mike,” he had a knack for looking after others. Whether planning ahead for every possibility, offering practical advice, or making sure everyone got home safely, he was the person we could always count on.
But alongside his practical nature was a fun-loving side. Mike was always ready to join in on a dance, never taking himself too seriously. On a family vacation in 2023, he proudly earned the resort’s title of “Best Dancer” and has a trophy to prove it.
Mike was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His daughter credits him for her love of puzzles and sports (go Rams, Lakers, and Dodgers). He loved spending time with his son & grandsons on the putting green or while cheering for the Ferrari F1 team.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Pamela LaChance of The Colony, TX; his daughter, Danielle LaChance (Gary Elens) of Chicago, IL; his son, Corey LaChance (Courtney) of The Colony, TX; and his cherished grandchildren, Graham LaChance, Hunter LaChance, and Cameron Elens. He loved being their “Papa.”
It’s impossible to capture all of Mike in this piece. Just know that his family & friends will miss him dearly.
