Living in Indianapolis, Indiana, Michael was an executive with extensive management experience in specialty restaurants and retail. In the 70's, he was the Vice President of Marketing and Development of the restaurant chain Steak n' Shake. In 1981 he and his family moved to Dallas, Texas area upon accepting a position of Vice President Director of development of Peoples Restaurant and co-owned restaurants in Florida and Indiana, continuing his career as a consultant and franchisee of Michaels Stores and later President and Cofounder of MJDesigns. In was later in life, in the year 2000, he took all the skills he learned over the years from site selection and acquisition, planning and zoning, building, meeting deadlines and more to create a project management software program that would manage all these aspects and more. The successful software company called Lucernex, Inc was purchased by Accruent in 2017 and Mike and his wife embarked on retirement. A friend recently said "Sidney (pet name) taught me a lot. The only thing I tried teaching him was piddling, and it did not take it. You cannot train a racehorse to piddle!" Such a true statement!! Although, when he was in his rare "down" time, because he was a caring, compassionate, and gentle man, he enjoyed relaxing over the years in the company of all the rescue animals. He had the most delightful quick come back sense of humor with certain looks that were always entertaining, as well as being a big "cookie monster" with a never-ending satisfaction for his sweet tooth.
Michael is survived by his wife of 48 years, Cathy (Rott) Nuzum, two children; William A. Nuzum (Beth), daughter, Theresa Mitchell (Joseph), five grandchildren, Sandy Saavedra (Joseph), Katie Nuzum, Megan Nuzum, Stellan Mitchell, Finley Mitchell and a great great grandson, Logan Saavedra.
