Noveta, 87, passed away peacefully with family by her side, after heart complications. She was born January 24, 1930 in Golconda, IL, the daughter of Ethel and Elmer Randolph. She didn’t really like her first name so she has always been known as Noveta to her family and friends. She had three brothers, Bill, Bob and Pud and one sister, Wanda. Some of her time was spent in the country on a farm but much of it was spent in the city. Upon graduating from Golconda High School, she moved to Rockford, IL to work as a secretary in a bank.
She met the love of her life, Buryl Larson, through mutual friends, in Rockford. They married on October 10, 1950 and settled in Rockford, IL to raise their family. He worked at Rockford Screw Products until retirement. She chose to stay home to raise their children and run the household. She was a wonderful seamstress, enjoyed all sorts of crafting, created a beautiful yard full of flowers and also lots of fresh vegetables, volunteered as a Girl Scout leader, volunteered in the PTA, and with Christian Women’s Club. She was a member of State Street Baptist Church for many years, then Bethel Baptist Church in Rockford.
Noveta always made holidays special, decorating for each one, serving delicious food, and sharing those times with family and friends. She managed to make her home look beautiful while watching how much she would spend. She sewed most of her clothes and those of her daughter, also to save money. She was a very talented seamstress. Family was always the center of her life and she never stopped worrying and praying over them, helping whenever asked (and even sometimes when not asked). It was the same for her friends. Noveta stayed in touch with many friends from her childhood, her time in Rockford, Winchester, and in Texas. She never embraced technology, preferring to call and write (yes, write) letters to stay in touch.
When Buryl retired they moved to a lake home in Winchester, TN. Why TN you may ask? They loved the area when they honeymooned there (as well as Spicer MN), and his best buddy during his army time, Andy Young, and his family, lived nearby. They always wanted to share their retirement time. She enjoyed having a new yard to fill with flowers, spending time on the lake on their pontoon, swimming whenever she could, entertaining friends and family, and a new church home, First United Methodist Church. She also enjoyed exploring the mountains in the area, going on hikes with Buryl, finding wildflowers and waterfalls off the beaten path. Buryl and Noveta enjoyed traveling to see family and friends but also enjoyed traveling around the USA, and to Europe.
Buryl passed away in 2005 and two years later Noveta moved to TX to be near family. She moved into a retirement community, making new friends, enjoying outings to the arboretum, museums, plays, concerts, group trips, and lunches at various local eateries. She had a lifelong love of reading so filled a lot of her time reading all types of books. She stayed in touch with friends met over the years, traveling to see them when she could.
Noveta is survived by her children, Kent Larson and his wife Mardel, Marla Horn and her husband Peter, grandchildren Heather and Bruce Burgbacher, Thad and Brittney Larson, Kyle and Tammy Larson, Kaleb Larson, Jason and Jamie Anderson, Tiffany and Jess Schmidt, Kimberly and James Cummings, Stephen Horn and Heather Arwine, and great grandchildren, Riley, Taylor and Emery Anderson, and Katelynn, Jaden, Logan, Isabella Larson, and Logan, Cooper Cummings, her sister Wanda Crabb, and brother Pud Randolph, and lots of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Buryl, brothers Bill and Bob, nephew Jason Arwine, and many other family members and friends.
There will be a memorial service held in Winchester, TN on October 7, 2017, concluding with a private family time to place her ashes with those of her husband Buryl in the Tims Ford Lake, at two favorite spots, spent with family and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent in her name to American Cancer Foundation, American Heart Association or the American Macular Degeneration Foundation. Condolences can be left at www.stonebriarfh.com.
