After graduating from James Monroe High School, Bronx, NY in 1951 Phyllis became known as a working woman who would do anything to support her family. Some of the jobs she had over the years included switchboard operator in New York City in the 1950s, general office work / accounting for various businesses through the 1960s-70s followed by 15 years in the Carrollton/Farmers Branch ISD. She was a retail associate at Marshall Fields & Company in Dallas in the latter part of her career & at times was their highest producing salesperson despite working part time.
She was an avid sports fan. Raised & living in The Bronx, NY for nearly 40 years, she of course was a New York Yankees fan. After moving to South Florida in the 1970s, she became a Miami Dolphins fan and after moving to Dallas in 1981, she became a fan of the Dallas Mavericks. Great memories were had taking her teen son to many games over the years while he was a Mavericks ball-boy. After retirement, she enjoyed Saturday afternoons watching Oklahoma Sooners football & lazy Sundays watching NFL football. She was always up for a game & really enjoyed teaching others how to play her favorites. In particular, she enjoyed Mahjong, bingo & countless card games. She was a pillar of her independent living senior community at The Overture in Frisco & enjoyed the many friendships made in her final years. She was a selfless woman who would do anything for her family & friends with a spirit & character that will never be forgotten by those that knew her.
