

Born on September 27, 1941, in Oil City, Pennsylvania, Rex was the eldest child of Carl Luther Houze and Helen Virginia Rodgers. Rex was raised with his brother, Jon, and sister, Kathy, whom he loved dearly. Rex enlisted in the United States Army Reserve in 1963. He proudly served for six years and ended his service as a Staff Sergeant E-6.
On March 18, 1967, Rex married the love of his life, Joyce White, marking the beginning of a lifelong partnership rooted in unwavering love, strength, and dedication. During their 59-year marriage, they built a foundation of love, respect, and integrity. Rex was a devoted father to his daughter, Lindsay, and son, Jeffrey. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Lily and Ava, who brought him immense joy.
Rex dedicated his professional life to transforming organizations and empowering leaders to achieve exceptional results. Rex was the president of two national leadership development firms before founding Improving Performance and Results in 2003. During his career, Rex conducted more than 3,500 workshops, seminars, and speeches on leadership development and productivity improvement. He authored six books and published seven leadership business courses, in addition to numerous booklets, modules, and training materials. He has helped hundreds of entrepreneurs and organizations worldwide enhance productivity and leadership through innovative training programs and coaching. Rex will continue to have a profound impact on current and future leaders through his leadership development and productivity improvement programs.
Beyond his professional life, Rex had a deep love for tennis. He was a sought-after tennis partner, playing multiple times a week for over 45 years, until the age of 80 – a testament to his energy, discipline, and love of the game. He also re-ignited his love for softball later in life, playing in a senior league. Rex was a lifelong learner and avid reader. He read 60-70 books per year, with over 3,000 of those being on leadership, personal, and professional development.
Rex will be remembered as a man of integrity, wisdom, and strength. Rex was deeply loved, respected, and admired by his family, friends, colleagues, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Rex was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Carl Houze. He is survived by his devoted wife, Joyce; his children, Lindsay (Jody) Brosin of Murphy, TX, and Jeffrey (Lori) Houze of Valley Mills, TX; and his granddaughters, Lily and Ava. He is also survived by his brother, Jon (Donna) Houze; his sister, Kathy (Jody) Victor; his brother-in-law, John White; nieces Terri Fraumann, Ronda Piper, Connie Jones, and Missie Fazek; and nephews Justin Houze, Steve Victor, and Joe Victor.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 pm on June 13, 2026, at Stonebriar Funeral Home, 10375 Preston Rd., Frisco, Texas 75033.
