Rodney Reid Mobley

July 26, 1960 – July 17, 2026

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Rodney Mobley, who peacefully entered the presence of his Lord on July 17, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family at home. He was 65 years old.

Born on July 26, 1960, in Lufkin, Texas, Rodney lived a life defined by faith, devotion to family, and a passion for serving others. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, James Whittington Mobley and Jimmie Faye Walton Mobley, whose values of hard work and integrity shaped the remarkable man he became.

Rodney shared an extraordinary love story with his high school sweetheart, Barbara Wilkes Mobley. Together they built a beautiful marriage that spanned 45 wonderful years, filled with unwavering love, laughter, friendship, and steadfast support. Barbara was not only the love of his life but also his very best friend.

He was a proud and devoted father to his daughter, Brittney Mobley Madl, and cherished his son-in-law, Jeff Madl, as one of his own. His greatest joy came in being "PeiPei" to his three treasured granddaughters, Madeline Grace Madl, Aubrey Jean Madl, and Harper Faye Madl. Though they grew into young ladies, Rodney lovingly insisted on calling them his "grandbabies," a name that reflected the endless affection he had for each of them.

Rodney is also lovingly remembered by his brothers, Richard Mobley and his wife, Debbie, and Randy Mobley and his wife, Sylvia, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, dear friends, former students, and athletes whose lives he profoundly influenced.

A graduate of Forest Park High School in Beaumont, Texas, Rodney excelled on the baseball field before answering the call to teach and coach at his alma mater, later known as West Brook High School. He then was honored to coach and/or teach Math at five other Texas High Schools. He earned his undergraduate degree in Physical Education with a minor in Mathematics from Lamar University and later received his Master of Education from Tarleton State University.

For decades, Coach Mobley poured his heart into the lives of young people. Whether teaching high school mathematics or coaching football, baseball, and track, he believed every student and athlete deserved someone who believed in them. His track team earned a State Championship, but to Rodney, the greatest victories were the lives changed, confidence built, and lifelong relationships formed.

He often said he was blessed with not only one daughter, but countless "sons" through the students and athletes he mentored over the years.

In 2016, Rodney began a new chapter in real estate, where he continued serving others with honesty, kindness, and dedication until his retirement in 2024.

Above every accomplishment was Rodney' unwavering faith. He loved Jesus Christ with all his heart and faithfully served in his local church, especially in youth ministry. Whether on the sidelines of a football field, in a classroom, or at church, he was passionate about encouraging young people to reach their God-given potential.

Rodney embraced life with enthusiasm and gratitude. He loved playing baseball and softball in his younger years and later found great joy on the golf course. Saturdays in the fall were reserved for cheering on his beloved Baylor Bears, and no meal made him smile quite like Whataburger—a favorite so well known that his family celebrated his 60th birthday with a Whataburger-themed party, a memory that still brings smiles today.

Those who knew Rodney will remember his gentle spirit, warm smile, quick wit, generous heart, and quiet strength. He led by example, loved without condition, and left an imprint on countless lives through his kindness, encouragement, and steadfast faith.

While his family grieves the loss of an extraordinary husband, father, grandfather, brother, coach, teacher, mentor, and friend, they find comfort in knowing he has heard the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant."

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Rodney' honor to your favorite youth or children's charity or to a local youth ministry, continuing the work that brought him so much joy throughout his life.

A visitation will be held at Stonebriar Funeral Home, 10375 Preston Rd., Frisco, Texas 75033, on July 23, 2026, from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm, with a Celebration of Life will be held at Stonebriar Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 10375 Preston Road, Frisco, TX 75033, US, on July 23, 2026, at 2:30 pm.
