Scott John Dymond was born on April 8, 1969 in Edinburgh, Scotland to John and Kathleen Dymond. He immigrated to Canada with his parents and older sister Karen when he was 3 years old. When Scott was small, he had so much energy to burn and got himself into so much mischief that his parents started him in soccer when he was around 5 or 6 years old. Scott quickly worked his way up to playing Select soccer in the National Soccer League of Canada. When he was 16 years old, his team won the Canadian Championships. They also played in many tournaments in the US, including the Dallas Cup. At the age of 16, he was selected to represent Canada for the National Soccer League and compete against the premier academy teams in Europe. He liked to tell how his senior year English grade was based on a journal that he kept while riding the trains and travelling through Europe. He was featured as the athlete of the week for CTV (Toronto local television) for scoring 6 goals in one game in high school.
In 1987, Scott graduated Central Peel Secondary School at Brampton, Ontario, Canada. Scott also attended and graduated University of South Carolina at Spartanburg (now USC Upstate) with a Bachelor of Science in Education. Later, in 1995, he graduated University of South Carolina with a Master of Education focused in Educational Administration. Not long after that, he married the love of his life, Mary O’Neill.
Scott spent over 20 years making a career out of the sport that he loved. In that time, he was a Soccer Coach, Director of Coaching at the Classics Soccer Club in Houston, a Director of Coaching at the Texans Soccer Club in Houston and the College Director at FC Dallas in Dallas. Scott has left an incredible legacy in youth soccer and helped many young people find their way to college, some as the first generation of college students in their families. This was his passion.
A dedicated and loving family man, Scott believed vacations were very important and made sure that his family took at least one vacation every year. They would take road trips from Texas to Canada to see Scott’s family and from Texas to South Carolina to see Mary’s family. Disney became a family favorite. Thanks to a soccer tournament, Scott and Mary were able to take the kids to Walt Disney World every year from 2000 until 2015. In 2014, the year that Scott was diagnosed with cancer, they visited Disney World, Disneyland and went on a Disney Cruise. It was Scott’s Disney bucket list. In 2015, to celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary, Scott took Mary on a trip to Maui, Hawaii. They both fell in love with the tranquility of the area and came back with the kids the very next year. Scott treasured the opportunity to “unplug” and spend quality time with his family on these adventures.
Scott is survived by his wife, Mary Dymond of Prosper, TX; children, Miranda, Allyson and John Dymond of Prosper, TX; parents, John and Kathleen Dymond of Brampton, Ontario, Canada; sister, Karen Belliveau (Yves) of Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada; nieces, Gabrielle and Nadine Belliveau of Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada; Many nieces and nephews in South Carolina and North Carolina; Many aunts, uncles, and cousins in Canada and Scotland; and his beloved dog, Angel.
