Christopher “Scott” Rodgers passed from this life on to his eternal home on December 7, 2018 in McKinney, Texas with his family by his side. Scott was born on April 6, 1958 to his parents, H. Don Rodgers and Lucile Williamson Rodgers in Abilene, Texas. He was blessed with an older brother, Collin and sister, Melissa. He grew up in Abilene, TX where he learned about Christ, life, integrity and what it meant to be a West Texan—something he was especially proud of.
Scott graduated from Cooper High School in Abilene, TX and went on to spend some time at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX. His real desire was in the music industry where he worked as a Production Manager, a Technical Director and an Audio Engineer. His entry into the entertainment business happened almost by accident. It all began when he was offered a whopping $5.00 per hour from his friend’s dad to help with the staging at a “Deep Purple” Concert in 1973. After that he was hooked! His career took him all over the world working with all the greats in the music industry. He always said he had the greatest job in the world because “he got paid to play”.
Family and friends recall Scott as fun loving, funny, loyal and a hard worker with an incredible level of integrity. They also commented that he was also generous, persistent, reliable and highly respected in and outside his industry. Scott was also known for his quick wit as well as his sometimes-sharp tongue. It was not at all uncommon for him to verbally punch you while he was hugging your neck. He could talk a blue streak about anything. His classic saying was “SEE YOU DOWN THE ROAD”.
Though born with the name of Christopher, he was known as Scott. Both of his parents were stenographers so they named him Christopher Scott Rodgers so that his initials would be CSR which stands for Certified Shorthand Reporter. Family, friends and colleagues also referred to him as Big Daddy, Scooter, Scotty, Bubba and Truckstop. Kim always called him BD—short for Big Daddy.
Scott loved ranching, fishing and of course, he loved his football—especially the Dallas Cowboys. He was a “Dyed in the Wool Baptist Christian” and lifelong Republican. He enjoyed sunrises as it was his special time to spend in prayer with the Lord and enjoyed sunsets to spend time with Miss Kim and “The Kids”.
When asked where his favorite place to be Scott would automatically respond “anywhere with Miss Kim and my babies” He loved all his furry babies more than life itself. He was “PA” to every one of them. Some of Scott’s favorite movies were “Tombstone”, “The Blues Brothers” and “Blazing Saddles”. He enjoyed Classic Country music and Classic Rock. Scott was a Big Fan of “Seinfeld”, “Frasier “, “Bewitched” and “The Andy Griffith Show”. He really enjoyed attending the “The State Fair of Texas” along with eating the mandatory Fletcher’s Corndog and a turkey leg to chase it down. While at the Fort Worth Stock Show, he had to have one or two cinnamon rolls. He always said there was something about the smell of the barns that made those the best cinnamon rolls on the planet!
Scott met the love of his life, Kimberly Roberts on February 25, 1995 and they were together almost 24 years. Scott & Kim “made it official” getting married on October 31, 2009. He picked that date as his buddy, Chris Casey and his wife Erin, were married on April Fool’s Day so Scott decided that Halloween would be the second funniest day he could choose so he did!
Scott was preceded in death by his father, H. Don Rodgers; his mother, Lucile Rodgers; his brother, Collin Rodgers; his dogs, Gus, Woodrow, Chaddy, Cowboy and Noel; his cat, Miss Dolly; and his guinea hen, Myrtle Faye (who really believed she was a dog in a bird suit!). His memory and legacy will live on through his beloved wife, Kimberly Rodgers; his sister, Melissa Rodgers and spouse, Sheryl Parrish of Houston, TX; his furry kids, Jake, Miss Allie, Beau and Biskit; and his horses, Snip, TC, Boots, Gypsy, Sugar and Penny Lane.
Scott was loved while he was with us here on earth and we will continue to love him through time and all eternity. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests you consider making a donation in his name to one of the following charities: Behind the Scenes, SPCA of Texas or The American Cancer Society.
The family would like to offer special thanks to Dr. Ahad Athar and the Staff at Texas Oncology McKinney with extra special thanks to nurses Krista Ames and Jennifer Hazel. Mere words cannot express the gratefulness for Dr. Jennifer Robertson. From the beginning of his diagnosis, she held Scott’s hand and promised to see him through to the end and keep him out of pain. She delivered on that promise beautifully.
