Simmy and I went to school together from Prima Grade at OLBSA  through high school  ND then to Grambling State University. Although we didn’t cross paths much at Grambling, I  always knew she was there. 
I called her my sister when talking to others at Grambling about her. The last we talked face to face was at a dance at the catholic center at GSU , 1971.  
I was also inspiring to  be a member of the same ND High Band.

Thanksgiving 2018:   Simmie and James gave Kris a good holiday.

Simmie shares her love for God's Word with Children at Reuben Johnson's after-school Good News Club (October 2024). Her vibrant personality and devotion to Jesus touched many lives!  I will miss her greatly.

Simmie was so precious and so loving. It's hard to narrow down just one memory, but I do remember how she made me feel. She always took care of others and put their needs before hers. I remember her beautiful card she made me and hand delivered to my apartment along with funds that her and Lisa collected after the tornado destroyed Garland and all the things around my home the day after Christmas in 2015. The picture above is Simmie and I supporting a fellow MISD PE teacher's family as she had lost her battle to breast cancer. 
Oh how this world will not be the same without Coach Simmie, but her spirit lives on inside of each one of us, and I know she would want us to be brave, strong and carry on! I love you Simmie, and I thank God for your part in my journey. I know you are having the time of your life safe at home in heaven! My condolences to the family. - Tara Gomez (Coach Gomez)

It's hard to imagine earth without Simmie.  I think of so many sacred experiences we shared:  Cornerstone trio (I felt so privileged to be alongside such talent), Charity (clowns), circle and prayer groups, not to mention motherhood!  But her light and joy will delight all in heaven, and I look forward to being together again there.  Big hugs to all of the family.

To Diane and family,  what I learned about Simmie from the first time we (Doug/I) met her following Hurricane Katrina is that she never met a stranger. It’s a rare gift she had. Her warmth and caring nature made you instantly fall in love with her!  Simmie’s enthusiasm was contagious and she was such fun when meeting up to hang out, play games and eating-out. I will miss those moments and her friendship so much but I know in my heart that God called her home for a reason and that we will all meet again. Diane - please know that my heart goes out to you and I am thinking of you during this difficult time.

Simmie, we will miss you, your smile, your voice, your homemade cards, your love of a Charlie Brown Christmas. The trio is no more but you are singing with the angels. Glory to God!

My precious sister in Christ. When we were members of Cornerstone UMC our then pastor. Rev. Tom Howe said I need some singers for 8:30 service. Simmie , Germaine (my sister) and I answered the Lord’s call and it was such a blessing, we formed the Cornerstone Trio. We went around Louisiana, United States and Cuba sharing our gift. Simmie always answered the Lord’s call and was a shining light everywhere. My sister we didn’t get to sing again in our older years but we will sing again in heaven. Blessings to your family for sharing you with us.

Simmie and I were in Christian Clowns together at Cornerstone UMC in New Orleans. She was always the liveliest presence, with her big smile and even bigger personality. Her belief in God and her dedication to serving others inspired me. Whenever I was around Simmie, my heart felt light, even if I had a tough day. I will miss her dearly. May her spirit continue to shine brightly.

Our light is a whole lot dimmer with the loss of this incredibly gorgeous light being gone. Simmie, my sweet sweet friend I know you are harmonizing with the best of them as you are worshipping and Praising our beautiful Lord. May the memories of your many many songs and hums fill your beautiful family with infinite love. You are always my sister in Christ and I adore your beautiful heart. Thank you for being a beautiful, present, and loving light in my heart and those privileged to know you. May He raise you up on the most beautiful Eagles wings my girl. I love you and will miss you so…

To the family of Simmie,
I met Simmie in New Orleans at Cornerstone United Methodist Church. She was a beautiful sweet spirit with an angelic voice. We kept in touch via Facebook. I pray that God brings you all comfort. She often talked about how much she missed her mom and now they are rejoicing together in God’s Kingdom. She will be truly missed. God bless you all!

Family, I am so sorry for your loss. Simmie will always be my sister. Our “First Watch Bible Study Group” consist of four beautiful women with their own God given talent. Simmie’s “teaching skills” were such a blessing to us. She had to know how everyone was doing before we ever got started. The hour nightly class was such a blessing. We know she loved us but her family was her everything. James, you have three Aunts, we’re going to keep you covered like your mother always did. Heaven has gained an Angel, she’s left her mark on our lives in a way that only Simmie could do. On May 4th of every year, we will never forget, “May the 4th(force) be with you.🤣 Love you, praying with and for you.
