Sinclair Hui passed on January 27th, 2022 in Frisco, Texas surrounded by family. He was born March 5th, 1935 in Guangzhou, China. Born to Wing Yam Hui and Yak Wuh Chui. Sinclair lived his life to bring joy to all those he encountered. He was well known for his talent, hiring and mentoring women and minorities, something that was not widely popular at the time. He will leave a significant impact on the lives of all those who knew him due to his optimistic outlook and selfless nature.
Sinclair immigrated to the United States in 1950 fleeing communism with his mother and five siblings. His incredible artistic talent emerged that led to his later career in Architecture. After high school, he was drafted in the US Army despite not yet being an American citizen. He served in Panama as an aide and was self-reportedly the worst shot. He attended Virginia Tech where he earned an undergraduate degree in Architecture. He pursued a career as an architect, designing many notable buildings in the US, South Africa, and China. His most notable works included the National Air & Space Museum, the National Post Office, Mary Kay Headquarters, the Rolex Headquarters in Dallas, and the HP, Samsung, & Motorola Headquarters in Beijing. As he excelled in his career, he continued to mentor many aspiring professionals, as well as teaching Architecture at the University of Tennessee. Some of his favorite past times included visiting museums and staying active. After his accident where he became a quadraplegic, he continued to cherish spending time with his family and trying to design the tallest building in the world. He would smile and say there were worse things in life than being paralyzed. He continued to be a positive influence in everyone’s life as well as made everyone feel like family.
He is predeceased by both of his parents, his brother, Tong and his wife, Mijo. He is survived by his sister Kit and brothers Peter, Ben, & Tom. He is also survived by both of his daughters, Mylene and Aline, and his five grandchildren, Dominique, Genevieve, Gabrielle, Nicholas, and Amelia.
