July 7, 1950 – January 11, 2024
Obituary of Susie Rohner
IN THE CARE OF

Stonebriar Funeral Home and Cremation Services

Susie Ann Melancon Rohner passed away on January 11th, 2024 with her husband and daughters by her side.

Born to Harry and Louisette Melancon in Lafayette, LA on July 7, 1950, Susie grew up in south Louisiana with her sister, Peggy, and brother, Paul. She attended St. Cecilia Catholic School and graduated from Cathedral-Carmel High School in 1968. Her love of learning drove her to pursue her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from The University of Southwestern Louisiana. She traveled the world with one of her best friends before becoming a teacher.

She met and married her husband of 49 years, Ed Rohner. They moved to Longview, Texas in 1974. She earned her Master’s Degree in Education from Stephen F. Austin University while teaching elementary education. Her fulfilling career in teaching eventually led to her retiring as a Librarian. Susie was very active in the community. She was a member of Our Lady's Guild, Catholic Daughters, The Junior League, The Garden Club, The Louisiana Teachers Association, The Corvette Club, Friends of the Library, The Texas Teachers Association, and the Texas Librarians’ Association.

She was an amazing mother to her two daughters, Suzanne and Alaina. She was incredibly involved in their activities throughout her life and the best mother they could have asked for.

Susie was always surrounded by friends and never met a stranger. She loved reading, Mahjong, puzzles, and playing card games with her friends. She started a Pokeno group over 30 years ago with friends who continue to play together today.

Susie will be forever missed and loved dearly by her husband, daughters, friends, and family. She leaves behind her three grandchildren, Jackson, Parker, and Adelaide. She is also survived by her mother, Louisette, her sister Peggy, nieces, great nephews, and countless loved ones.

The visitation and funeral service with Father Garcia will be January 19th. A private committal service will be at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
