“Tyty” as he was called by his family had a beautiful soul with a charismatic smile and an infectious laugh. Tyler sold all of possessions twice so he could travel to Spain and then Nicaragua. Tyler was an amazing self-taught guitar player and loved playing for his family and friends. Tyler enjoyed reggae music and guitar music from the 60’s and 70’s like Jimi Hendrix, the Eagles, The Beatles and Pink Floyd.

Tyler loved his mom dearly, called her “Mama Bear”, and always told her “you are loved unconditionally.” He loved spending time with his niece Raegan and nephew Jack.

Tyler is preceded in death by his grandparents, Ron Bogan, Ruth Bogan and Max Grist. He is survived by his parents, Toby and Rhonda Grist of Prosper, TX; his sister Rachael Hughes and her husband Mike of Prosper, TX; his sister Tiffany Grist of Denver, CO; his niece, Raegen Hughes and nephew Jack Hughes; his Best Friend, Nik Jain; and his loved dog ‘Pele’.

Our hearts are heavy learning of Tyler’s passing. Though we haven’t seen Tyler for many years, our soccer memories will always live on. Nick shared with us many good times the boys had on the pitch and off. Keep those memories close, Rhonda and Toby. We will.

Lost and wandering. Was there a different way? Maybe there IS something wrong with me; but, how about some adventure? That's when he came in; cool hair, nikes on his feet; always.laid.back. -Listen ,he said, new group of friends, traveling to an unknown destination, always ready to experience always willing to impact. Ready to play? From there there was no me anymore, us , only we, tribe, tribing. Parallel world's that began opening, but never really settled. Break. Thru. Resistance. There IS a better way. There IS a different world. Dance on. Now getting lost again, cold, but now with a shinny big smirk. Tribe. Up the river, down the mountains.- I can see a different way, he sang, I can see the new island, life begins to get closer, I wanna be there now. This story comes unfinished, to be continued somewhere else, for we carry that adventure, that will to grow, the need to share, wherever we, wherever he may come to land. Dance on , dance on, you beautiful soul.

I got the privilege of knowing Tyler over the years through our adult soccer teams. I loved watching Tyler’s skill on the field and no matter how bad I was or how many times I messed up, he would still pass the ball to me. He always had such a positive attitude and was a joy to be around. Tyler will be dearly missed!

Tyler came into our hearts when he and my son Isi met at Texas State University and became Bobcats and college brothers.

He brought his curiosity and his adventurous nature with him and we have loved him dearly since then.

We admired his entrepreneurship combined with his idealistic vision that inspired his many projects to help others and change the world.

We have been privileged to share travels and family moments with him and enjoy his outstanding generosity and mindfulness.

Tyler, you are traveling to Heaven now
Tyler, we love you

Been trying to find a memory of Tyler and I growing up there are just so many.
Tyler and I met in 4th grade, but we didn’t start becoming best friends til 5th. We had the same blue sweater that we always wore. Started wearing indoor soccer shoes because Tyler wore them! Soccer camps at UNT we’re so much fun because of him! He was amazing to watch play soccer! Because of him I became the player I was and I couldn’t thank him enough. When I had braces and would have to come back to McKinney for my appointments I would stay with Tyler and his family! I will never forget all the laughs we shared and friends we made along the way. Love you Bud! You are and will always be in my heart man. I am really gonna miss you!

Tyler spent some weeks in Spain with us. We met him because we are very good friends of Isidoro's family. We don't want to be sad because he wouldn't like it, we prefer to remember him with the smile he always had.

It was such a good pleasure to live those weeks with Tyler.

Tyler and I worked together and I found him to be the sweetest person. We spent a lot of time simply discussing life and the beauty in it.
Tyler always had a positive attitude and was always willing to go above and beyond to help others in times of need.

This world is definitely going to miss you my friend.

Keep Shining Tyler!

Still reeling at the though of what the entire family may be going through right now. I want you to know that my level of respect for your son will always live with me. Many of you may not know that Tyler saved a human soul once when he was lifeguard in McKinney. It happened on my watch and I'll always remember the instinctive bravery he showed that day. Now I find myself "remembering" and having to come to grips with the fact that this beautiful soul has been taken from us way too soon. Thank you Toby and Rhonda for letting me be a part of his young life. The honor was and still IS all mine. Because of Tyler I got to know you both. And although our lives have traveled in separate directions since those days, I want you both to know how VERY much I appreciated you. We'll never forget how you befriended our young and struggling family when there just wasn't much in our lives. Everything Tyler represented was a testimony to two of the greatest parents I've ever encountered. My heart is broken and could never say any more that would make a difference. Just please know that you all are loved and Tyler will be with us forever ❤️

I met Tyler when he joined the soccer team I managed at TFC. We were definitely the underdog at most games but he always had the best attitude. He was a sweet young man and a great soccer player; it was fun to watch him play! He was funny and friendly and always encouraged his teammates when they weren't having a good day. I will always remember his smile and his good disposition. Words can't describe how sorry I am at this loss. Rhonda and Toby you are in my prayers!
