Barbara Cameron Brown

March 28, 1928April 14, 2014

Barbara C. “Babs” Brown Babs Brown who resided in Radford but was a lifelong resident of Front Royal died at LewisGale Montgomery Regional Hospital on April 14, 2014. Babs was preceded in death by her husband, Stewart E. “Brownie” Brown. She was born in Riverton, Virginia on March 28, 1928 to the late Beverly and Weltie Cameron. She is survived by her son, Dr. Bruce E. Brown and his wife Cary Brown of Radford, Virginia and her daughter, Barbara “Barbee” Brown of Culpeper, Virginia. Her granddaughter, Tiffany A. Brown of Roanoke, Virginia also survives her. She was the last remaining daughter of Beverly and Weltie Cameron. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Leona C. Carroll, Mildred C. Clark, Gertrude Berryman, Beat Judy, and Bert Stratton. Her brothers Beverly “Sonny” Cameron, Jim Cameron, and Larry Cameron also preceded her in death. Babs cared deeply about her friends and community. She was a proud retiree of Warren Memorial Hospital where she managed the switchboard and many other tasks. Upon retirement, Babs was happy to volunteer her time and expertise to senior citizens of Front Royal who needed assistance with their hospital bills. She did this through her connection with the ACTWU at the Union Hall. Babs was very proud to have been a Cameron and very happy to be Brownie’s wife. She lived life on her terms. She was funny, feisty and loving until the end. While we will miss her dearly, we know she is in God’s hands and with Brownie and all of her brothers, sisters and Momma and Poppa. In lieu of flowers, any remembrances may be expressed in donations to the Front Royal Humane Society. Memorial services will be held at Turner-Robertshaw Funeral Home on April 27th at 2 P.M. Visitation with family and friends will be one half hour prior to the service.

Babs was my "second Mom" when we worked at WMH. She taught me so much (and we always had lots of adventures.) She put the patient first and reminded us what was important. Babs was the Heart of the Hospital and it has never been the same without her. My husband was always her "Sweet Baboo" and thought the world of her. We are so Blessed to have known such a Beautiful Special Woman.

My Best Girl Friday...that was Babs. She was the epitomy of Warren Memorial Hospital when I came on board in the early 70's. I was so impressed with her ability to operate the switchboard as if it were the command and communications center of the hospital; if you needed someone or something Babs knew where to look. Looking back I often wondered if she secretly had Dennis McCarty implant chips in folks the way she could locate them back then when there were only land lines and no beepers. Babs was the capable and caring voice of the hospitals' paging system. Babs helped me get started in Front Royal. She found me my first office mgr.-ins. clerk-receptionist-girl Friday in the capable hands of her sister Bert, who saw me thru my 1st 15 years of solo practice. By then Babs had retired from the hospital and agreed to take Bert's place "for a year or so" until I could find my next girl Friday. Well Babs stayed on for 5 years and she was simply the best. I was indeed fortunate to have these 2 Cameron sisters in my practice and could not have asked for more loyal, dedicated and capable Girl Fridays. My sincere condolences to the family. I will always remember your mom and cherish the many good memories. Wayne Seipel
