Obituary of Mildred Elizabeth Frye
Mildred Elizabeth Travis Frye went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at the Lynn Care Center in Front Royal, VA. Mildred was born on June 2, 1923 in Front Royal, Virginia to the late Mary Virginia Walden Travis and Waverly Priest Travis. Preceding her in death were 9 siblings, Herbert Travis, Preston Travis, Ollie Travis, Elwood Travis, James Travis, Emma Travis, Violet Travis and Myrtle Travis Pinkett and sibling that died in infancy. Mildred lived her entire life in Front Royal, Virginia where she met and married Otis Marshall Frye, Sr. who preceded her in death in September 1976. Although Mildred was the last survivor of 10 children, she was always surrounded by people who loved her. Leaving to cherish her memory are 6 children; Gloria Teresa Frye Carter of Luray, VA; Otis Marshall Frye, Jr.(Cassandra) of Toms Brook; Maurice Anthony Frye (Sandra) of Washington, DC; Marie Annette Frye Veney (Sammy) of Luray, VA; Eric Sidney Frye of Washington, DC and Lisa Carolyn Frye Peacemaker (Sam) of Richmond, VA. Mildred had 2 nephews and 1 niece that she loved as much as her own children, Ronald “Shag” Travis of Front Royal, VA, Robert “Bobby” Travis of Harrisburg, PA and Debra “Maw” Travis Jones of Baltimore, MD; 26 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. Even though no one in Mildred’s immediate family lived in Front Royal, she was taken care of by a devoted nephew, Ronald Travis and Rosetta “Liz” Jordan. Mildred accepted the Lord at an early age and joined John Wesley United Methodist Church. Mildred loved to sing. She sang in the choir at John Wesley and with the Angelic Voices Community Choir. Her favorite songs included Because He Lives and Sweet Hour of Prayer, which she could play on the piano. Mildred was a strong and amazing woman. For much of her life she was a single parent. She raised her children to love the Lord and to have respect for themselves and others. She often went without than to see her children in need. Mildred had a calm and quiet demeanor, but her smile could light up the room. She was very independent and lived alone until her recent illness earlier this year. Mildred loved attending Warren County Senior Center, where she had many friends especially Mrs. Edna Baltimore, Mrs. Madeline Christian, Ms. Mary Gatewood and Ms. Carolyn Woolvine. She enjoyed all the many activities; especially the trips out of town and the Senior Olympics where she medaled in the basketball hoop shoot and the beanbag toss game. Mildred was loved by all and will be deeply missed by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A holiday gathering will not be the same without her corn pudding. Sweet hour of prayer! Sweet hour of prayer! That calls me from a world of care, And bids me at my Father’s throne Make all my wants and wishes known. In seasons of distress and grief, My soul has often found relief, And oft escaped the tempter’s snare,
