When Reggie’s mother died, his father moved Reggie and his brother Steve from New York to Strasburg, Virginia. They were sheltered, loved and nurtured by their Aunt Susie and Uncle Ernest Nickens and family. His sister Shirley remained in New York with their maternal grandmother.
Reggie attended elementary school in Strasburg until his father relocated from New York to Happy Creek, Virginia. After his father moved to Virginia, he married a former sweetheart (Claire Dean). Together they established a home for the boys.
Sarah Ellen Jackson was also a member of this new family. She was the older sister with whom Reggie and Steve lived following the death of both parents.
Reggie attended Ressie Jefferies and Manassas Regional High School. He graduated from high school in 1958.
Following his graduation, he joined the U. S. Army and honorably served for 18 years with distinction.

Despite his disability (with his arm) he rarely complained. Reggie had a certain calmness in varied situations. His faith was deep and sincere – this faith sustained him in trying times. Reggie’s faith was especially noted in the suffering and passing of his brother Steve and sister Shirley.
His continuous love for the Nickens (cousins) and other family members and friends, namely his “Happy Creek Family” especially Flourine, Ida Belle and Dee are memorable and treasured.
