Alex was born in beautiful Boulder, Colorado on September 12, 1993. He attended Eisenhower Elementary school in Boulder (K – 2nd grade). His family moved to Fort Collins in 2000, where he attended Werner Elementary School in Fort Collins. In 2005, he moved to St. Cloud, Minnesota for 3 years and attended North Junior High School and Apollo High School for 9th grade. After moving back to Fort Collins he attended Fossil Ridge High School for 10th grade and graduated from Rocky Mountain High School in 2012.
Alex completed a training course in Emergency Medical Services at Front Range Community College, where he especially loved to ride along in the ambulance and fire rescue truck.
He looked forward to finishing college – he wanted to be a thoracic surgeon or a physicist. Whatever his pursuits, music was a lifelong love and one of his greatest talents.
Alex began piano lessons at age 5 with his mother Barbara, and she quickly noticed he had a natural talent for music. Piano, however, was not his thing - he wanted to play the saxophone and guitar. He got his first guitar in 7th grade and spent countless hours practicing. He took lessons for 7 years, and taught himself songs by ear. He liked to tackle very difficult guitar songs including Cliffs of Dover in 8th grade. Throughout his life, Alex’s guitar was his truest friend. It went with him everywhere, through the best and worst of times. He enjoyed playing guitar for friends, family, and pretty girls.
An avid reader most of his life, Alex liked to read medical suspense novels and books about physics.
In Fort Collins, Alex worked at Collindale Assisted Living Center, Safeway and Jimmy Johns before moving to Florida.
Alex moved to Florida in the Spring of 2017, seeking treatment for addiction. After struggling for several years, he was able to change his life for the better.
In Florida Alex worked at Himmarshee Public House restaurant and an Italian restaurant in Fort Lauderdale. Most recently Alex worked as a medical sales rep.
Alex was actively involved in the Florida Conference of Young People in AA (FCYPAA), serving as the Unity Chair Person. He made many close friends, loved making them laugh, and loved serving this group.
Alex is loved by his large family many friends and will be missed dearly, until we see him again.
Alex is survived by his parents David Gines, Barbara (Paul) Jennings, sister Ivy Gines, half-sister Eliana Jennings, step brothers Tylor Jennings, Zac (Kendra) Jennings, Alex Jennings, Matt Jennings, Grandfathers Dennis (Nelean) Layne and Ralph (Lyn) Gines, and Grandmother Betty (Ted) Hoover Webb.
Alex will be laid to rest at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Fort Collins.
