Annie Higgins Metzger-Lundt, a much loved and widely respected flight attendant, died at her home in north Fort Collins on June 28, 2019. She was 56.

Feeling their loss, those at her bedside described her as classy, impeccable and timeless, devoted to high professional standards and able to lead a crew and serve passengers with charming calm. In recent years she often wore a swath of her pretty hair to the side over a front shoulder, like Disney’s frozen Elsa. Also feisty, independent, mischievous and a live wire at a party, Annie loved and cared for people of all kinds.

Born in Portland, Oregon, on October 3, 1962, to Roland and Patty Higgins, of Medford, she became an only child after a younger brother died while being born.

After graduating from college in three years with one degree in psychology and another in French, Annie went to work for Eastern Airlines.

Throughout her life she faced challenges with dignity and grace, never complaining. In 2006 her journey took her to Denver, where she met United flight attendant Rick Lundt. A fellow flight attendant played matchmaker. Rick and Annie were married on September 19, 2009. They often flew together, enjoying each other’s company. On vacation cruises she would pull him onto dance floors.

Annie followed the news closely, played the stock market and read romance novels.

To her, flying was more than a career. It was a life. She embraced it, and it energized her. She was never late for work. She loved everything about being in the air, said flight attendants who held her hands toward the end, recalling along with Rick that Annie’s captivating voice and enthusiasm could lead passengers to pay attention even during pre-flight explanations of safety matters.

Following a two-year struggle with lung cancer, Annie passed in peace, resting in Jesus, assured of her destination.

Annie’s parents preceded her in death. She is survived by Rick and other relatives whose lives were touched deeply by hers.

A private service will be held for Annie. A Celebration of Life will be held by her friends at United and will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Pathways Hospice in Fort Collins.

Annie - Get your guns!!!! And did she have guns.....with class that set the bar so high anyone who flew with her had a challenge that was hard to beat. Annie took her job so seriously with all her heart and soul. You never saw her without her striking smile and classy poise. She radiated the polished Flight Attendant that United expects from all of us and so many fail at. She wore her wings proudly and it showed from head to toe. We will surely miss all her stories and charm but our memories will live on. We will never forget you Annie.

I Loved the grace my friend Annie showed , she was one of a kind . I had the pleasure of getting to know my Friend in Los Angeles were we flew together. She would laugh when we were together and we shared many many memories. Lots of life changes For both of us . And I will never forget the time a supervisor at work flew on Annie’s trip to the surprise of him getting to know the job from the constant professional Annie . When he disclaimed this isn’t bad . All bets were off and Annie had the best smile on her face .
To moving to Denver , and knowing I always had Annie’s back at the new base and she had mine . We looked forward to flying together and had the best experiences together . From doing a road trip with Patience on a layover and laughing the whole way to the point of tears ,this will be when of my greatest layovers ever . She always made my day listening to her voice of calm .
When Annie met Rick her life was complete .I will always remember the love that they represented and the compassion for each other , don't let me get started on the wedding cake lol. I was proud to be at the union of two lovely souls .
We shared in this Cancer journey, which neither one of us let defined our lives .I remember she wanted me to know the C word was back , she had determination in her eyes . She was a fighter !!
I wish I could tell Annie one last time how much she meant to me . I know she knew that she had a piece of my heart , and I truly loved her and that smile , 30 years is not enough my friend . RIP Annie and may God hold you and Rick in his arms .

I have known Annie since we had flown together out of LAX in the early 90’is. And we reconnected in DEN years later. I always had a big smile on my face, when I saw her name on the crew list. She was a great person to fly with and she will be greatly missed by her United Family... Rest In Peace, sweet Annie 😇❤️

Annie was one of the very first Denver based flight attendants I had the privilege of flying with when I transferred to Denver in 2007. I am shocked of this news and will miss her beautiful smile. She was a fabulous flight attendant and I learn so much from her every time I flew with her. Annie was one of the most gracious beautiful people I ever knew. She will be greatly missed by her Denver flying family but will always still be close to us every time we are in the air. Rest In Peace Annie ❤️

Annie was one of the classiest most elegant flight attendants we had. I used to tell her that her voice was captivating, like a radio personality and she should do voice overs. I am shocked by this news. She will be greatly missed as she was loved by everyone in our United family. Prayers to Rick and all ♥️

Sincerely,
Kiki Gustafson
