Arlyn was born in Great Bend, Kansas on July 9, 1933 to Emma (Teopfer) and Richard Weiser. Her childhood and young adult life were spent in Great Bend, where she graduated high school and attended business school. Since she didn’t have a car and didn’t drive, she didn’t go too far from home. She had three sons, Don, Kenny, and Allen. She loved her children dearly. In the early 1980s, Arlyn finally left home and relocated her family to the big city: Thornton, Colorado. She worked as a court clerk for the Adams County Judicial System until she was ready to retire.
Arlyn was a woman of great faith and regularly attended Mass at Saint Augustine Catholic Church in Brighton, Colorado as long as she was able. Arlyn was very crafty. She was known to create beautiful floral oil paintings, Christmas ornaments, potpourri sachets, and many other crafts. She was also very thoughtful and was always ready with a personalized gift for any visitor. She often attended art classes at the Fort Lupton and Brighton Senior Centers. She enjoyed the outings but never shied away from critiquing the art supplies. Arlyn had a generous sense of humor. She was a fiercely independent woman with a great sense of wit. Later in life, Arlyn enjoyed volunteering with the Council of Catholic Women, as well as other Catholic charities.
Just minutes before her passing, Arlyn’s son Allen and his significant other, Amy Harris, were at her side. They had spent the afternoon and evening in her company, reading to her, holding her hand, and being there for her. She was able to say goodbye to those she held closest in the world and quietly make her exit once she was ready.
Arlyn is survived by her sons, Allen Wood and Don "Bobby" Payne, and by her sister, Marlyn Unger. She was preceded in death by her son, Kenneth "Kenny" Payne, her parents Emma & Richard Weiser, and by her brothers, Marvin Weiser and Arthur Weiser. Per Arlyn’s wishes, no services will be held. Cremation has been entrusted to Resthaven Funeral Home. Memories of Arlyn and words of condolence for her family are welcome at www.resthavencolorado.com.
